Dark.

The new MoFi Santana ‘Lotus’ album. This is a triple LP release. SQ is fair, and frankly probably not a candidate for the ‘MoFi’ treatment. The live recording was good for the time, but the performance leaves a little to be desired, IMO. The one long and super tedious drum solo is an example of this…at the time it was in vogue, now it’s just tedious and a waste of space on the vinyl. Interesting album for Santana completists, but I can think of other albums I would rather have for the same £’s.

Miles Davis - Birth of the Blue, Columbia/Analogue Productions (2025)

The long awaited by me at least of this Analogue Productions reissue of the original session by the sextet assembled by Miles Davis who would the next year go on to record Kind of Blue.

I have a DMM reissue of Miles 1958 originally released in the mid 70’s which has these four tracks on it and of course this reissue is much, much better not only that but it is sound wise better than any KOB reissue I’ve heard

Added to that the beautiful Matt cover and I’m very, very happy.

Ganavya - Daughter of a Temple, Leiter Records (2024)

A gathering of like minded musicians came together in a kind of Ashram, lived, ate and made music together it is real Spiritual Jazz using the music of Alice and John Coltrane as a back drop.

Wayne & Carolina Shorter, Shabaka Hutchings, Esperanza Spalding, Immanuel Wilkins, Vijay Iyer, Charles Overton and others make some really lovely music here it’s mixed by Esparanza Spalding and Nils Frahm whose label Leiter the record is released on.

Mastered by Zino Mikorey and the vinyl cut by Andreas Kauffelt at Schnittstelle both have done an excellent job

I switched from an Audio Quest Pro to a Degritter and it was an improvement.

Thanks Bob, on my list as really enjoying the Qubuz stream. Is the pressing quiet?

You mention a new album by Anouar Brahe, so bought his last that I’m really enjoying and 1st ECM record.

Richard,
I have that but generally that record does not sound that great. Pity cuz it’s one of my faves!

Kuma, I have (or have had) around 12 different issues of KL and one of my Kendun pressings sounded so much better than the others. However, unfortunately, even on this one the opening track was a bit flat and muddy compared to the rest. It’s uneven overall but does have some real high points - for example the sound on Any World (That I’m Welcome To) is lovely. I think it must have been a difficult album overall, and I recall reading about issues with the dbx encode/decode system that was being used. Dbx is horrible, and when I played with it I found that it doesn’t translate across different machines that well, so perhaps not so surprising.
