Just given a selection of different pressings of Katy Lied a spin and specifically comparing the track Daddy Don’t Live In That New York City No More. Interesting… the best of my U.K. black label ABC is not really in the running. The best US Kendun has a nice groove and flow with much better punch than the U.K. but lacks the clarity of the latest Universal.

I have ordered a copy after your recommendation. I have a black ABC UK copy and an 80s/90s MFSL copy.
Hoping this new version becomes my go to.

No idea what these unofficial release sound like but it will be interesting to hear.

Mack Avenue recently acquired the back catalogue of Stanley Cowell and Charles Tolliver’s Strata-East Records.

Here are the first four re-releases, all 100% analogue and cut by Kevin Gray, and pressed by RTI. Nice thick tip-on sleeves with new liner notes too. Looking forward to listening to these!

Nice! Hopefully they do a better job than the Pure Pleasure Two is One. I have that and never play it because it sounds off.

Edit: I just saw one of those tracks by Mack is already on the streaming platforms (Hopscotch) and it sounds sublime. The terrible distorted bass on the Pure Pleasure one is gone. If the lp is like this I will go for it.

I had a Bluewater gift card to spend from Christmas. I got this as, in more than 2 months, nothing had come to mind what to get with it.

Does anyone have the Alan Parsons Project - The Turn of A Friendly Card (180g Analog Reproduction) “Speakers Corner” LP? I’m interested in how this compares with the DSD version I have.

I haven’t had huge success with charity shop vinyl, but I like Haydn and I love this sleeve  £2 well spent even if it’s wrecked.
Edit:it’s not wrecked, amazing how quiet it is given the release date says 1960.

The UK issue, Decca recorded RCA Living Stereos usually sound great (as good as SXLs of the same period) and just about anything played by the VPO conducted by Monteux is wonderful, so for £2 you did very well, provided it’s not totalled.

Just lucky!

Yes this is so much better than (my standard UK) pressing, I haven’t heard the one you mention

The UHQR is, I’m afraid for your wallet, much better again!

Sounds very fine, starting I thought it was a little noisy but then it got VERY LOUD INDEED  the odd click but I’ve bought releases in the last twelve months were noisier. Lovely performance too.

This has made me very happy.
I’m always concerned we might not see another.
Brilliant. Playing on Tidal for now as did not know it had been released.

Go on Edwyn.

Nat Birchall - Drums in Dub, Ancient Archive of Sound (2025)

The multi talented UK Jazz saxophonist again dives deep into 1970’s Roots Reggae and again his one man band brand of writing, playing, recording, mastering and releasing his music comes up trumps although his talents do not extend to drawing as though he himself designed the sleeve he employed a Janice Wong to illustrate the drums on the sleeve.

Again I cannot praise Nat Birchall enough the music, recording and mastering are all excellent and sound beautiful through my system, like me his love of Reggae pre dates his love of Jazz and he excels at both genres this record is highly recommended.
