Joe Bonamassa , Blues of Desperation . What a fantastic album .
This the 2025 stereo mix?
I haven’t listened against previous releases but I’m streaming hires and it is excellent.
I confirm: excellent
Making smoking look cool again. I like it.
What are the two RSD releases like?
Pepper Adams Quintet (1957)
Accompanied by a stellar West Coast ensemble of trumpeter Stu Williamson, pianist Carl Perkins, the incredibly prolific bassist Leroy Vinnegar and drummer Mel Lewis, it’s not surprising that Adams’ first album as a leader sounds so vitally contemporary, given the superb command of the artists and the timelessness of the art form. What is surprising though, is that a debut album displays a leader who is so fully in command of his musical vision and the control and maturity to bring that vision into fruition by his leadership and confidence.
All-analog release on 180 gram vinyl.
Mastered and cut by Bernie Grundman at 45 rpm in stereo from a 15ips dolby flat copy (best available source), plated and pressed at Gotta Groove Records.
Stoughton gatefold with an extensive tipped-in booklet, limited to 2,000 copies.
Frank Sinatra - In The Wee Small Hours, Capitol/Tone Poet (2025)
Frank Sinatra and Nelson Riddle made some classic recordings and this Tone Poet remaster sounds excellent. More than a decade ago I had an Analogue Productions Nat King Cole Nelson Riddle LP which for some reason I don’t own anymore and in my admittedly sketchy memory and on a different system that sounded more lush more like the 45rpm Ella & Louis on AP but that is a very, very high bar on it’s merit this Sinatra Tone Poet is excellent an I’m very happy to own it.
Very difficult to source in Germany too.
Martin
Sold out quickly here too and flippers are already pricing it at £50. - £60 on Discogs odd as Tone Poets never sell out
It isn’t a limited edition and there will be 2nd presses at some point
Sure I have a bootleg or two (maybe three, lol) of this 1968 concert somewhere but nice to finally have an official release!
The Doors
Live In Copenhagen 2LP set
RSD 2025
The US site has it on pre-order again for 5th Dec shipping. I hope its the same here in the UK as I have one on order and it hasnt turned up yet!
James Allsopp - Stars and Sand, Impossible Ark Records (2025)
Limited edition of just 300 and Impossible Ark have done a good job the vinyl is flat, clean and dead quiet.
Kenny Barron - Sunset to Dawn, Muse (2025)
This is the second of three reissues on Jazz historian Zev Feldman’s new reissue label Time Traveller records. They have access to the entire Muse catalogue and so more reissues are on their way.
Kenny Barron’s debut as leader Sunset to Dawn is a Jazz classic the writing and musicianship are top draw and Matthew Lutthans remastering job done at The Mastering Lab, Kansas is up there with the very best as are the tip on Stoughton cover and the new sleeve notes.
It is a wonder that they entrusted Optimal with pressing such an exceptional reissue thankfully Optimal have kept their end of the bargain and produced an excellent product.
Finally arrived yesterday after ordering it from the Rhino shop in July. Rhino High-Fidelity Buckingham Nicks. Worth the wait though as it sounds fabulous.
To add to the collection: I already have the original ltd ed. CD, but…the 20th Anniversary double LP + ya get a poster and an additional track…sold!
