Not recieved it yet, but I can tell you it was recorded via a microphone suspended mid-stage (or mid-hall, I can’t remember) so it’s better than a lot of bootleg Doors gigs (Boot Your Butt, anyone) but it’ll never beat a soundboard recording…
BUT…it was a really good gig, sound quality notwithstanding.
I gave in to temptation and played it ( well, seemed sensible to check there were no pressing faults in case it needed to go back and anyway, what if I was run over by a bus on Xmas eve😆). Have to agree it sounds incredibly good for a record pressed from a tape made in 1955.
I received my copy of the new Rhino High Fidelity box set of six Coltrane Atlantic albums on mono. These are mastered from the original mono tapes my Kevin Gray and pressed at Optimal.
I’m listening to Giant Steps now and it’s the best I’ve ever heard this album. Fantastic!
The gatefold jackets have the cover art of the original French releases, with the U.S. jacket art and notes inside the gatefold. Each album also includes excellent essays/notes by Syd Scwhartz.
I didn’t exactly buy this, but was sent it by Chesky Records after I’d reviewed the album. Rather nicely it’s been signed by Rebecca too. I shall slip it on the Okki Nokki then give it a play on the LP12.
I remember when Avid Records in Oxford upstairs had literally boxes full of the War Of The Worlds double album in pristine nick for no more than £5 each ! Alas, the store is long gone.
In the same store I picked up an original Eric Dolphy ‘Out To Lunch’ mono which was displayed on the wall for just over £10. Those were the days..
A couple of recent purchases from Rock On in Stamford. Funny when I cleaned them, instead of marks, smears and smelling of fags, the Stevie Nicks album had make up and glittery fingerprints on it!
