What Was The Last Vinyl You Bought?

Lot of already released tracks it seems. With the exception I think of that 28 minute Groovin’ track at the end.

Jenny Scheinman: All Species Parade (2024)

An American violinist / composer / singer known in the UK, if at all, for her recordings with Bill Frisell. Her output is wide-ranging, covering jazz, folk, country, blues and unclassifiable instrumental music. I suppose this is primarily jazz, not a genre that I normally go for, but this is excellent. Also recommended (on CD): Jenny Scheinman (a vocal album) and Crossing The Field (instrumental), both issued in 2008. They just never get old!

The Style Council - Cafe Bleu, Special Edition (2026) mispress

I ordered this from Spain as I had some money in my Amazon account there I wasn’t sure if it was one of the recalled, mispressed copies or not as it happens it was. These copies have the Whole Point II on the copy of the original album instead of the Whole Point of No Return and also on the other side these copies have the extended 12” version of You’re The Best Thing instead of the album version.

I actually prefer this mispressed version of the LP with Whole Point II it flows better it has I think either Mick Talbot or Steve White playing vibes on it rather than the more stripped down version which is on the original LP..

Hopefully they will release all the live stuff on vinyl included oh the CD version eventually some of which may or may not be on the live LP Home and Abroad LP I haven’t checked until then I’ll enjoy the Tidal stream.

The pressing was done at Optimal I believe and apart from the mispress the whole thing sounds and looks excellent.

Not really that i bought but gifted to me as a birthday present. So hope that counts.

I’m still yet to find anyone that I’ve known who’s heard of this band.

Happy Birthday!! @skaboy607

You can include me in your list of people who have never heard of this band. Give us a bit more; what is the genre, what might they have been influenced by, why might I want to listen?

Go on, make me curious!!

I don’t actually think i could categorise the genre! Certainly not over the lifespan of all their albums. I had to wiki it to see what genre’s others have used which include: post hardcore alternative rock, emo, experimental rock.

Their early stuff is my favourite (Identity Crisis, Illusion of Safety, The Artist in the Ambulance) and I would classify that as emo / rock / punk / melodic!

I think some of the guitar melodies are very catchy and if you’re a drummer (which I was when discovering the band), the tracks are very fun to drum to!

I think their later stuff is more experimental and has some challenging timings.

Not particularly helpful and not sure i’ve done them the service they deserve, but give it a try, what’s the worst that could happen!

Only just managed to clean and listen to this, its as wonderful as you say, and I agree it is better than Wee Small Hours.

I just wish all vinyl was this good, I think Wee Small Hours edges it but I don’t know if it’s the music.

Nice debate to try and decide , both sound exceptional.

Mint versions of the Be With pressing of The Awakening by Ahmad Jamal are getting rare. Got this one today. Still sealed.

Will be a nice listening this evening

Hi @skaboy607

Thanks so much for taking the time to reply. I’ve given the tracks you mentioned a listen on the neglected NDX2. I see what you’re saying about it being music a drummer might be into. It’s great stuff - just not my cup of tea. :folded_hands:

You are very welcome! That is the best thing about music. Appreciate you taking the time to listen to it.

Wes Montgomery - The Incredible Jazz Guitar of Wes Montgomery, UK Riverside Mono (1960)

I wanted the recent Kevin Grey OJC reissue but read that these tapes where lost long ago and Craft had used a Japanese copy tape I believe so I looked for an earlier copy and won this UK first press for £10

These UK first presses are not supposed to be the highest quality and listening only on headphones I have to agree in part but it is mono and so should be heard properly in that context.

I’m very happy to own it although being the ever so slightly compulsive collector that I am I’ll probably end up buying the KG anyway if it’s not full price

That’s a very good point Adam, why can’t all vinyl be this good.

I’ll be interested to what you think of Opeth’s BlackWater Park 25th anniversary pressing.

@GraemeBC Probably tomorrow when I play that one, will let you know:+1:
