Dexter Gordon - Dexter’s Calling, BN/Tone Poet (2026)
Dexter’s second recording for Blue Note as leader recorded the same week as his first
Doin’ Alright but with a different equally talented backing band Kenny Drew, Paul Chambers and Philly Jo Jones.
The John Coltrane Quartet - Africa Brass, Impulse/Acoustic Sounds (2026)
I’ve been after a decent copy of this excellent Coltrane Impulse recording and apparently AS have done an excellent job sadly I won’t get to hear it for a month or more.
John Lee Hooker - That’s My Story, Riverside/Bluesville Acoustic Sounds (2026)
A real favourite of mine I’ve somehow ended up with 2 copies of the excellent ACE 1980’s reissue one still sealed but this version has excellent reviews, can’t wait to hear it.
how do you like The Acoustic Sound Series? I have just ordered A Love Supreme and I have 4 more that I’ve got in my cart but I haven’t received it yet
In my experience the Acoustic Sounds series are excellent and reliable but of course are only as good as the original tapes allow them to be.
Yazz Ahmed - Shinrin - Yoku, Night Time Stories (2026)
Limited Edition run of 500 from the super talented Yazz Ahmed recorded during the Pandemic.
Off The Wall MFSL One-Step 45rpm vinyl.
This was released over a year ago and because it’s not particularly a top list album for me and the ridiculous cost in the UK for this, I didn’t buy it. It was in the back of my mind since though. In the last couple of weeks or so it seemed to go out of press, which suddenly made me more interested, so I got it….and I’m glad I did, it’s stunning. The One-Steps always are. I have an early 80s US press of this and compared it. It’s nowhere near. The One-Step is just so much more separated, huge deep tight bass and much more alive. It makes it a very special boogie-dance night and I don’t have many of those.
I am looking to buy that too! I’m in Canada
you inspired me. Just bought both it and Thriller, One Step pressing
Ha! Nice one. Can you believe I haven’t bought the Thriller yet? I’ve been waiting for a 45rpm version, but the longer it goes on I don’t think it will happen.
Either way, you’ve got two great pressings. coming.
I have two One Step recordings. Dr Dre The Chronic and Prince’s Purple Rain. Funny story, Off The Wall was the first album I ever bought. Technically I bought three at the same time and I was going into Grade 7. Off The Wall, Rick James Street Songs and Prince Dirty Mind. I think Thriller was probably my tenth album? I have that copy downstairs as well as a newer release. Looking forward to receiving these two!
I’m getting a new cartridge (AT 760) installed this Wednesday on my LP12 Majik/Ittok 3 so Thriller will be the first played. Need to wait until Aug/Sept to play Off The Wall though. That is when I’m doing Karousel/Kore/Lingo 4.
I like the thriller 1 step a lot. It has a tad less bite in certain sections, but lots of depth and space and Michael Jacksons voice sounds terrific.
for Mother’s Day.
My wife is a big fan.

Monday morning delivery surprise. Alice in Chains Jar of Flies remastered. and The Doors greatest hits. Rhino Reserve cut from analog tapes.
New additions - I haven’t had a chance to clean or listen to them yet, but I’ve enjoyed what I’ve heard on Qobuz so far.
A nice Speakers Corner Records pressing of this 1959 Cannonball Adderley album with Coltrane, Chambers, Kelly and Cobb that was recorded while they were working with Miles Davis.
Terrific sounding album.
