The original Parlophone issue (and the 2018 KScope 2LP reissue) was spread over four sides, so for an album of this length it’s asking a lot to squeeze the cut onto two sides only.
Hanging around waiting for my daughter yesterday, popped into Fopp in Cambridge town centre.
Loads in their 3 for £66 range, so bought some.
And Violet Grohl.
Gosh! That was a worthwhile comparison! The original has a far wider and deeper soundstage than the Half-Speed Remaster single disc which sounds rather flat and quiet in comparison. In my defence, I hadn’t listened to the original for some time but there was a substantial difference when compared. I then compared the High Res version on Qobuz via the NDX2. This was also superior to the Half-Speed Remaster but not quite as good as the original vinyl.
Thank you for prompting this experiment Jamie. ![]()

Me too!
@KenRose and @Jamiewednesday, enjoy!
I haven’t played records all week, but even with lack of warm-up (sic - maybe the damn weather helps) War are sounding great.
Lee Morgan - Sidewinder (Blue Note Vinyl Classics)
McCoy Tyner - Time For Tyner (Blue Note Tone Poet Series)
Lucky week for me - both sound great and pressings are immaculate. I think I’m going to buy me a lottery ticket

Nat Birchall Quartet - Live at Low Four Studio Manchester, (2026)
Not played the vinyl yt but the stream is very good recorded in 2021 released just this week.
Oooh, Martha with her Muffins and Metro Music - One of my fav bands from the era especially Echo Beach, must dig my copy out for a spin. Enjoy.
A bit of a punt as while I like the music of The Killers and Brandon, the recordings and production are often awful! Mixed for radio…
Just bought this. Started the first song and quickly took it off, it’s far too light outside to play this. Will revisit after 10pm
Rough Trade 50th edition of Debut on silver vinyl back in stock at One Little Independent records. First copy had a slight scratch on one track so they kindly sent another copy without returning it.
Great album. I’d heard Björk before with the Ice, whoops!, Sugarcubes and liked them, but it was Debut that sparked the love affair.
Late to the party with this one, I thought her later ones were so good I circled back to it. Hugely enjoyable
It was The Sugarcubes great band though my little sister introduced me to them.
