When is an LP12 no longer the original TT you purchased?

But is it 2.5 times as good

Far more.

You must be ecstatic.

Heā€™s just being candid, lol.

I still have the lid, hinges and outer platter from my second Linn, purchased around 1995. I no longer remember the original serial number, but I know it was originally assembled by Agnes Munro (below).

The Klyde didnā€™t seem to work that well in the Aro and i regard the Krystal as two leagues ahead of it. The Karma which sat below the Troika was very good especially for rock. The Troika was even better.

Sorry to hear you had quality issues with the Krystal with some bad samples. Hadnā€™t heard that issue. Only issue i am aware of is it has an aluminum cantilever which means no liquids to clean it. I just use the Linn green paper.

They never played long enough to clean.
One had a loud hum and the other one wouldnā€™t track it was like a long hair with a tip.
Both noticed on fitting and dealt with.
There was a couple of hundred between serial numbers.
I still cringe I replaced a Troika with it.

Thatā€™s pretty wierd. When i bring in the table for a new cart as part of the process the dealer listens to it to make sure everything is performing as it shouldā€¦

My dealer travelled to me and I insist on a sealed box.
Some companies hide behind dealers to do QC for them.
It was on the trial run of these that the issues were discovered and required time to go away and return later.
My dealer bent over backwards to do the right thing and did.

Itā€™s comforting to see this old question still going.

I may be in a minority, but my old LP12 didnā€™t stay original for long - it blew the fuse in the plug within a couple or years and I replaced it with a non-Linn-supplied fuse.

Do the more hardcore here reckon that that deserves excommunication, or is that reserved for people using parts that rival a high-price Linn alternative? Cartridge, sub-chassis, arm, baseboard, plinth, power supply, phono stageā€¦

Youā€™ve blown our collective fuses, Nick, and are henceforth banished to the non-Linn naughty step.

Linn donā€™t make fuses so you could always change it for one by the same maker. :+1:t2:
