Which band/artist do wish you’d seen live?
Allow yourself three but put them in order.
I’ll go first:
Tom Waits
Joni Mitchell
Stealy Dan
Which band/artist do wish you’d seen live?
Allow yourself three but put them in order.
I’ll go first:
Tom Waits
Joni Mitchell
Stealy Dan
Billie Holiday
John Coltrane
Johnny Cash
Rush
Pink Floyd
Blue Oyster Cult
The Beatles
Supertramp
Dean Martin
Matt Monro
Genesis pre 1975
Yes c.1974
Artists I didn’t see at all:
Led Zeppelin (pre 1973)
Jimi Hendrix
Black Widow, ideally around 1970 (I was supposed to see them in 1973, supported by Gentle Giant and Supertramp, but they BW didn’t turn up due to illness so just the other two)
If I was going to list more than 3 I’d add Rolling Stones around 1969-71 ( I saw them once, mid-late 70s), Beatles on the roof in Saville Row, and Uriah Heep around 1971
Leonard Cohen
Led Zep
Grant Green
Bowie.
Miles Davis
Stevie Ray Vaughan
Roberta Flack
As someone who was too young to see many of these artists while they were active or in their prime, I can think of many:
I forgot to add King Crimson, 1969!
Split Enz
Ray Colombus and the Invaders
The Mutton Birds
The Angels
Allman Brothers
Led Zeppelin
Jethro Tull
Beethoven ( loved to have seen his piano improv )
Toscanini - Tchikovsky PC 1 with Horowitz War effort Concert at Carnegie 1942
Horowitz - See above
Runner up:
Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring Premier at Theatre des Champs-Elysees
The Doors
Cream
The Beatles
Limiting it to artists that I might have had a chance to see but now never will:
Led Zeppelin
Rush
Jaco Pastorius
That’s an interesting choice. Had I been there, would I have listened with an open ear, or huffed and puffed, stormed out and demanded a refund?
Lots of great acts here but without a doubt for me it would be Spirit of Eden era Talk Talk
Prince
David Bowie
David Bowie, Led Zeppelin and of course The Beatles in The Cavern Club.
Also, to attend any concert with my late Dad (which we never managed), and see one of the many Jazz legends he adored.
Beatles
Bowie
Genesis
