Hi All I have A naim Atom and a pair of ovatar 400 with normal speaker cable , Is there a certain type of cable recommend by naim , Many Thanks all Have a great Christmas Regards Marc

Standard Naim NAC A5 will do just fine.

Alternately, if you want to spend more money there are a number of boutique cables out there. Many of them you can arrange to try.

Naim NAC A5 works for most, use it on both of my systems.
Hard to go wrong with the cable designed by the manufacturer, to work with their kit.

Perhaps describe what you mean by “normal speaker cable”?
Before spending any funds, you need consider your amp and speakers.

Ovator S400s need to be tweaked, there are a number of threads here on the forum, search or ask here.
More importantly, S400s are capable of a great deal more than being driven by Atom or Nova. Later here so some experience.

Best to describe what you are trying to achieve, fiddling at the periphery will achieve very little.
Naca5 is the goto cable, using Ovator speaker plugs. Providing more detail and location in your profile would be useful.

If Naca doesn’t work for you - it’s very inflexible - Chord Odyssey always available S/H on that auction site.

Thanks DiggyGun appreciate it , Now for some bizarre reason Naim recommend 3.5 meters long minimum according to one of their American competitors , news to me

Hi Sound-hound Yes bog standard speaker wire , So there is defo room for improvement . The Atom works superb with the s400s . I am going deaf so just want the best sound at the moment Thanks Regards Marc

Here you go;

Note that you can probably go a little bit shorter with your Atom, but I wouldn’t recommend going less than 2m per channel. At least 3.5m would be my recommendation, not least because if you ever move up the range then your NACA5 can be used with the separate amps.

Hi Richard. Dane thank you for that which makes perfect sense , I will defo go down the 3.5 m minimum recommendation , All I have to do is find some now and presume the A5 just a newer version than the A4

NACA5 did indeed replace the earlier NACA4. NACA5 is definitely a nice upgrade over 4 though and well worth the premium. Some interesting history behind it too, worth doing a search here for the story.

Ovators were supplied with custom banana plugs to optimise the mechanical connection between amp and speaker. If your S400s were mine and I didn’t have them [the custom plugs], I would be finding a set as well as the cables. Naim take their mechanical engineering seriously.

I still have a set of NACA4 from my 42.5/HC/140 (long gone) I had in the 80s. I still use it to, for my office system connecting an Atom with a pair of wall mounted Dynaudio Audience 52SE speakers. 40 yr old speaker cable for 20 yr old speakers. :slight_smile:
