What on earth is Jasrac?
Any chance of getting back on piste?
Has anyone heard the new Marantz SACD-10 with Naim amplification?
An NPO that mysteriously makes a fortune for itself.
Not a fan then.
I went with the Audiolab 9000cdt using my 272 DAC, no regrets at all. Good thing about a transport vs. a CD player is you can experiment more. I have since updated to a more recent DAC chipset and the difference is night and day.
I’ve not heard one in very long time, but i have some fond memories of Denon CD players from the very early 90s… Their newest flagship offering the DCD-3000NE looks to be an absolute beast of a CD player. Maybe they’ll have one at the Bristol Show this year? Certainly worth checking out. I bet it’s built like a tank.
Subscribing and looking for a new CD player to accompany my NAIT 50 in my home office……
Was considering the Cyrus CDi XR which has been heavily discounted…….Or a cheaper option, the Marantz CD60 similarly discounted……
Opinions welcome…
I am pleased to say that I do not have a smart phone …
Smart man you are Ian ![]()

I have a Nait 50 and it is a splendid amplifier, but it will show up a cheaper source. I recently auditioned a Marantz 30SACD N, very good.
I went with a Naim ND5XS2 instead .
It was the most frustrating audition I ever had as I had three alternate options and there was no clear winner , just very good products with good quality
The Gold Note CD-5 or 10 would seem a good visual match for a nait or nova if anyone fancied something a bit more Latin…
I have the SA-10 and it’s great. Not sure if the latest version is that different
A second hand Naim CD5si is a great player.
Have a Audio CDT 7000 for loan to test it against my CD5si. The CD5si is a clear winner against the CDT7000 connected to either the SN DAC or ND5XS DAC. There is simply more music less hifi sound with CD5si.
I have a 25-year-old Naim CD5 and it’s phenomenal. I just added a Flatcap2 today. Only took me a quarter century to get around to it. It sounds great with it. It sounds great without it. The CD5 really gets a grip on the low end and has a well sorted filter on the highs. A very smooth, non-fatiguing presentation that trounces most other players in my opinion. I suspect the current offering, the CD5si, is a very capable player. I’m thinking of getting one for a second system I’m building. That, or a used CD5x.
I’m still waiting for my Marantz SA12 SE, I placed the order at the beginning of December for one of the last batch of 20.
They were supposed to be delivered the end of January but now they are expected 20th February ![]()
End of the line then?
I’ve got War of the Worlds sacd playing through mine in the Sunday morning gloom just now. It’s quite good ![]()
Entry level, yes
Not a patch against the higher Naim CD players.
Had it on vinyl and played it to death
, got a bid on one at the moment ![]()
Yes the CD5 takes some beating, especially with its matching Flatcap2. I still have mine, used in a second system on my Nait 50, along with an NDX/Unitiserve. If i drop in my CDX2 in place of the CD5/FC2 there’s a case for either, depending on the disc, which shows how good the CD5 is.
