I need to reposition the speakers which means that I need a pair of 11m lengths. Budget around £500. Currently using Linn K20 cable and no complaints. Should I stick to the same? Will it be ok over 11 m? The other brands I was looking at are: Chord Clearway X and Kudos KS1. Any advice please?
NACA5 is a step up from Linn K20 (which is still very good) over 11m is fine, as long as they are both of equal length.
Why not nac a5?
Depends on speakers.
I’ve a set of 10m Linn K20 runs - they are fine and give balance to a system.
I’ve also 12m Nac A5 runs which are better but in my fairly large living room lots of the details in the music are lost anyhow so the ‘better’ is hardly relevant.
In general I like longer cable runs over short runs, you may be surprised.
The biggest drawback of K20 is how it looks.
I have 7m runs. I used NAC A5 for decades, but upgraded kudos KS1 when I needed to change the length of the cable. Much easier to install and the sound is acceptable without being shrill.
I chose Kudos KS1 over Naim’s NAC A5 (9.5m runs with an Atom) as it is easier to work with making tight turns with underlay under the carpet. Available in white or black.
Have tried a few Linn and Naim cables the best I ever had was Linn K400 split.
But had to replace and the nearest signature I found as musical was Kudos KS-1
K 20 Linn was very good but misses the weight that K400 or KS-1 bring.
It’s hard to get your head round how thin it is.
I was told at the recent Acoustica hifi show that KS1 is the same spec as the Chord Clearway. If it is then it’s shocking IMO as I wouldn’t swap my KS1 for anything much under Chord Music.
Price difference is quite substantial
These are the specs for the KS-1
These are the specs for the Clearway
Basically different cable.
DG…
I find it very strange that both Chord and Kudos use a mix of standards in their specs …
… AWG, an American stnd based on Imperial plus other measurements in metric.
I guess no coincidence if Kudos supplier is Chord
Chord Epic Twin here, never looked back to NACA5
Kudos used to use a Chord cable for internally wiring their speakers, but changed to their own designed cable, the KS-1 in 2020.
Don’t know who manufactures the KS-1 cable. Likewise, don’t know who manufactures the stock Chord cable, which they convert into their cable ranges.
DG…
Yes I’m aware of most of that, I suspect the actual cable factory that makes the basic Chord stock is the same as makes Kudos.
My post was why have part of the spec in US/Imperial and the rest in Metric
I think to cover both the US and UK / EU markets.
DG…
US don’t understand metric, EU don’t understand AWG.
So both are confuz’d
NacA5 is a big upgrade from K20,much better Pace ,Rhythm and Timing.
Compared to my previous, Van den Hul, which is thick enough to run the national grid, KS 1 feels like door bell wire. Superb, engaging and detailed sound though. Like you, I can’t get my head around it.
Thank you
Best to fit it and not think about it.
It would easy to dismiss on popular belief about how the thickness appeals or not.
Built in preconceptions that heavy is value and light is cheap.
