Pete I have no idea if you are referring to it but you have brought back memories of childhood and “the corona physical”. Cheap fizzy pop but at least there was money back on the returned bottles!
Childhood of the 70’s.

I thought that was what you were talking about and I shouldn’t have made light of it. Must be a nightmare. Hope it improves soon.
Pouilly-Fuissé is 100% Chardonnay, Pouilly-Fumé is 100% Sauvignon blanc. It’s not just the terroir.
Isn’t Pouilly-Fuissé a Chardonnay parish? I’m pretty sure it’s a Burgundy appellation.
Hey no worries , first world problem, it’s a pain in the a but many worse things. It took 6 months to regain proper lung fitness when I got it first time round, purely based on previously cycling 100km routes on a day and then Being reduced to 25km and having no second gear and being totally exhausted.
Quite - I have always loved French Chardonnays especially Chablis.
Some years ago I dismissed Pouilly-Fumé as it was from sauvignon blanc but loved the chardonnay based Pouilly-Fuissé wines I’d tasted and always preferred at restaurants.
More recently howeer I’ve found a few Pouilly-Fumé wines I’ve really enjoyed hence the terroir comment regarding the grape itself.
There was probably also an element also of ‘I’ll enjoy the chardonnay based wine but not the sauvignon blanc one’. Really interesting to be proved wrong a few years later.
I think I confused everyone with my earlier post!
Corona (beer), I’ve always thought it is a beer for people who don’t like beer. However no harm no foul, good thing is we’re all individuals and it really doesn’t matter what other people think as long as you enjoy it.
Yes - was always a big chardonnay fan especially Chablis.
The Fumé/Fuissé names were so similar I consciously avoided Fumé as I detested cheap sauvignon blanc wines. I now know better!
Chardonnay was very big here in the 80s but fell out of favour thankfully it’s made a comeback. Problem for some was the overly woody flavour that felt artificial.
The less oak the better for me.
I love a big, buttery Chardonnay. Bring back the 80s
I’m all for bringing the 80s back, I had hair.
Thanks for clarifying, it was the way your post was written than confused both me and Eoink. A Loire sauvignon well worth trying is Haut Poitou, which is getting near Sancerre quality but at a much more palatable price. We have a campsite booked a few km from Sancerre in the summer and it will be fun trying it in the place it was made.
Also keep an eye out for the wines of Menetou-Salon; the best will have a nose of ripe gooseberries.
I also think that Quincy punches above its weight and can be v good vfm
Edit - all this talk of Loire wines makes me remember the sad demise of RSJ restaurant near the South Bank in London. Great food and phenomenal selection of Loire wines - the best in London if not UK
I love Sauvignon Blanc wines from the Southern Hemisphere, especially New Zealand, but some of the cheaper ones can be really in your face. Cloudy Bay has been around for a long time and the price has risen steadily to the giddy levels of today. Not a wine for every day but one of the tastiest I have sampled.
A wine I drink very rarely is Chateauneuf du Pape. We followed the Sauv with this last night and very good it was too…
We hope to visit Sancerre again in late August/early September.
We tend to spend a lot in the various domaine outlets whenever we are in Sancerre. At the top of Rue des Juifs, just off a corner of Nouvelle Place in the middle of town, there is a nice wine bar called La Bouteille Rouge. They have a good selection of local wines there with a few tables outside and more inside.
Just opposite the wine bar and only a few steps down the street is a restaurant called Le Bouchon.
Both the wine bar and the restaurant have become part of our itinerary when we are there.
That’s a good tip, thanks. Of course, post the B word, we are limited to 18 litres (two cases) each. Grrr.
