I might get some of the 2021 Célèbre. It looks it’s only half the price of the Ata Rangi Pinots .I see it’s like a rhone/ Bordeaux blend.
2009 is perfect for a Spanish Garnacha and '09 was such a hot, dry vintage. Spanish wines almost alway need more time to settle down and soften the tannins even in less hot years. That looks delicious.
My youngest daughter is visiting from Victoria, BC and I have a few 2009s we’ll be opening for them. One is an '09 Quintarelli Primofiore and we’ll follow with an '09 Chateau Clarke claret. Chateau Clarke is a left bank Medoc, but it’s mostly Merlot. It’s owned by one of the Rothschild’s.
We had a Chateau Clarke about three years back (I bought six) and it just wasn’t ready yet. I’m hoping this one is.
Jeez mon … if you were trying to upstage us, it worked.
That’s fabulous. Once in a lifetime kind of thing.
Hi David, 2009 seemed to be a great vintage everywhere. I’ve got a couple of bottles of Haut Bailly and Domaine de Chevalier that I am looking forwards to opening in the not too distant future.
It was just such a surprise when the winemaker produced it for us all to share. He likes finding older stuff for his cellar and I am guessing this had been stored underground for a number of years.
The 2010s were probably ready by 2020 or so from the milder growing season, but these '09s seem to need 14 or 15 years. Those should be nice soon.
I very much wish I knew some of the people that you know. I mentioned it here, a while back, that wine collectors seem to be scarce in Canada. We are a very young country and culture.
I know people that enjoy (my) aged wines, but none of them can be bothered with the extra effort it takes to select the keepers and catalogue them so they get consumed within a good drinking window.
For me, the research, selection and acquisition is (almost) as enjoyable as the consumption.
I am enviously happy for you lot …
Mid week drinking with a mild Dahl. Sadly only a bottle left.
Sorry photo not loading, but it is a 2012 Rasteau, domaine la Soumade. Still some fruit on the nose with hints of a damp woodland. Its tannins have softened and rounded feel in the mouth.
I thought it was a phone problem, but seems to be an issue with discourse hub.
A lovely few days in Franschoek with some great tastings. Picked up this lovely semillon and chilled it down before opening it maybe an hour before dinner. Brilliant wine could have competed on a global stage but worked perfectly for us as the sun went down.
Found this at the back of the storage so had it ready to go for something special. Had a phone call from the hospital this afternoon and decided I needed a bit of a lift.
This is delicious, dark and broody, savoury plummy nose, some faint anise at the begining, then a long slow finish. Mouthfeel is great, just a little tannin and concentration good. I hope that I have another one in store.
Went with the wild mushroon and bacon pasta perfectly.
Cheaper at Moore Wilsons
Hope all goes well with the health side of things. Interesting wine. Wish I had a few oldies like that in my cellar.
Thanks, I hope it’s only minor. Too low Neutrophils in last weeks blood test, so a repeat. I’ve had a low grade infection for weeks but I take immuno-suppresants, so there is concern. Hey-ho, the wine is fab. Perhaps I need to start getting back into that storage, there are a lot of mature bottles down there.
Snap. I have had low neutrophils around 0.4 as well but it has grumbled along for years without being an issue. Currently on immune suppression treatment for a neurological disorder but so far so good. All the best.
Thanks. Psoriatic arthritis here, on Adulimab for a year now. So, another blood test next week and then fly off for a bit of warmth, and try ane fiorget about it all. (with help from wine as well)
That’s a great wine. One to lift the spirit and speak of future bottles on sunny days. May you enjoy both for many years.
We are now in the upper reaches of the beautiful Hemel-en-Aarde valley (the road by Bouchard Finlayson and Hamilton Russell is closed due to the recent floods).
Superb lunch at Creation wines and we bought this Rhone blend to enjoy as the sun went down. For anyone looking for a getaway during the European winter heading south of the equator is always the answer especially if good wine involved!
Looks rubbish. Much rather have cold, grey dampness with a can of mediocre beer on a commuter train from London Bridge.
