Typical - just poured a small glass of this and within seconds a small moth flew into the glass!
@Alley_Cat – think that makes it into a protein drink…
Don’t drink a lot these days but Mrs Pete needed a red for a beef stew and I grabbed this. Not bad on a chilly winter’s evening
TWS are doing an en primeur offer of Reyneke, Polkadraai Hills so have bought some Chenin Blanc 2024 and Cabernet Franc 2023. V excited about the Cab franc
Congratulations @Antz - hope you have a cellar full of staff discount wine to enjoy going forward.
We have also been enjoying some exceptional fizz though this is MCC. Having met both Pieter and Ann Ferreira at the recent Tim Atkin South Africa tasting in London, Ann kindly offered to host us at her lovely home in Franschoek. While the bottles carry Pieter’s name Ann is very much the driving force for these, as Pieter has the task of looking after all the cuvées from Graham Beck in Robertson. All four were delicious and sit very much in the top echelon of MCC. If you love fizz these are definitely wiryh trying. The Blanc de Blancs is maybe my favourite but hard to choose when they are all very good indeed.
How did it go?
Just uncorked a bottle from my cellar
Hope you enjoyed it as much as i do, Salute!
We certainly did enjoy it. Still to try the other two in the trilogy and very much looking forward to them. We’re very grateful for the recommendation and a new producer discovery. We do mainly drink Italian wines. Any recommendations for Le Tour😀?
The other two Cantele’s, Negroamaro and Primitivo are very similar, they all be good but for some odd reason it’s always more difficult to extract the cork out of the Salice Salentino; as if the bottle neck is slimmer and the cork fatter, funny eh?
It’s rare i drink French red wine so not the person to ask, however 18 months ago purchased a case of Le Pigeoulet, Vaucluse, whilst on a serious cellar stocking up duty, and it was on offer for about 15 quid a bottle. a first uncorking was nice, drinkable in a curious flavoursome kind of way but after leaving it down in the dusty cellar for a year + it has transformed into a something very special, just need to be careful with sediment when ringing out the last drops
Just looked on my wine merchants web site and the price has risen to £21, …i only bought it cos it was on offer and had a cute bunny rabbit picture on the label, …told you i wasn’t the person to ask
I did struggle with the cork and may have mumbled something rather derogatory about Italian corks in general😀. Rather spookily Mr Bozz88 was given a case of the Pigeolet for his birthday. I suspect our friend who gave him it was attracted by the offer price rather than the cute bunny! We’ll let it mature for a while on your recommendation.
Ben and Laura came for dinner. They had planned to go to the Shard together yesterday, for his Dr appointment, and then to Padella for her favourite pasta, Cacio e pepe, but she was unwell. I did my best to replicate it, adding a few extras for the table, crispy pancetta and hot red chilli, to add as needed. Worked well, but the wine had the perfect foil for the cheese and worked with the black pepper, good match and delicious.
A very happy birthday to you!
with our fish selection last night, always loved Menatou as a town and AOC, I think they have to work harder than Sancerre, and for me Henri Pelle is one of the best producers and this wine is from his own Domaine
We had this last night, a very fresh tasting Chardonnay from Odesa in Ukraine. Not the easiest place to make wine at the moment.
Happy Birthday, Rafael!
Happy Birthday.
An unexpected lunch in the Swartland with winemaker Callie Louw and family as well as a couple of other winemakers and friends. The wines reflected some diverse inputs which all made for a harmonious whole. Lovingthe Huet and as I have some 2017 definitely worth a look. Pio Cesare 2010 is drinking so well. Great Nebbiolo perfume and such silky tannin. The Trevaillon was young but still graceful and giving. Happy days.
Happy belated birthday.
