Which wine are you drinking? Tell us about it

Last time I tasted this it was very tannic; it’s much more approachable now, if a little thin but with decent length and fruity nose. Pleasant with a pork chop.

Had this wine with a spicy bacon, chilli, garlic. tomato sauce, went well. Not big, but aromatic, expressive dark ripe fruit, slightly grippy, but good and fruity. Still taut, nice.

Dry River Gewurztraminer 2024 Martinborough. This is drinking very well right now. A very rich wine despite being medium bodied, due to very low yields. Lychee. rose petals and Turkish delight on the palate. Very nice with whitebait fritters.

It’s the current release. Only 300 casss. Mostly snapped up by the locals I’m afraid. So I’ll drink a glass for you

Thanks IDAK :+1:

Another lovely Martinborough wine to add to the list this week.

I think it is the best value prestige kiwi Chardonnay. Lots of flavour and finesse for $35.

A glass of this with my 90yo Dad during our customary Tuesday night supper. This is from his two ‘Bordeaux Catastrophe’ cases which arrived from the Sunday Times Wine Club, and he’s very pleased with it.

It loosened us up a bit.

He’d read an obit of Magnum photographer Chris Steele-Perkins in his Telegraph. I said I knew the name but that was all. We both knew of trumpeter Crispian Steele-Perkins. We were a naval family and Dad was a dentist. On his his first posting in Malta (when I was a toddler) he knew a naval or army surgeon who was a Steele-Perkins too. There was a fair bit of reminiscing about their time in Malta. Dad was keen on super 8 cine and apparently there is film of me on a deserted beach on Gozo in a fawn duffel coat and Rupert the Bear tartan trousers.

We liked the wine with our Waitrose miso maple pulled pork with mash and greens. It went well with the food, not so good without. But then it’s French. He insists he likes it without food too. I’m not sure I quite believe him. He’s not been that well. I will check on him at the weekend, or before.

Edit: I definitely mean before.

Ooh, intense fragrance, very fruity, good weighty fruit, long finish, but well balanced. good fruity acidity. A good wine, glad there are a few more left.
