I’m free next weekend……
Chateau Musar 1991
Prompted by ( @Christopher_M ) Chris’s post about the 2004 to open my penultimate bottle of the ‘91, the cork disintegrated and I ended up double decanting through kitchen roll and then muslin. Left for a couple of hours before tasting.
It’s a lovely orange brown colour, almost like looking at blood backlit. The nose has a sweet orange and strawberry scent with earthy wet leaves. The palate is similar, lovely tangerine and grapefruit acidity, tannins pretty much totally softened, sweet strawberry, resin, earthiness. After a couple more hours cherry and cinnamon started appearing. A really really lovely bottle, it’s got a few years left. Hopefully my final bottle will be in good nick when I open it.
I am thinking that I may have some similar challenges when I liberate my TWS reserves
I blame the software I use to track my wine … I lost the records when I changed phones / Mac last year. I thought everything’s was in the cloud, but sadly not. This winter will see me in my cellar reloading the records; dat least TWS has a record of what I have bought over the years (but not of what I’ve drunk).
Even with Cellar Tracker, GI-GO applies. Remembering to update what has been drunk or ordered is my biggest issue. I am hoping I am over estimating how much I have but will be finding out for definite once the wine room extension completed on the new house we are moving to. Then I will be pulling all the wine from TWS and EHD. At least I can get a pallet on the drive and a good box truck purchased to ease the work.
I use an app called wine cellar by Simon guertin - my mistake was trying to use on iPhone, iPad and Mac.
I should say that wine is only inserted in the app when I move from the kitchen to the cellar. The trickiest bit is remembering to remove it from the app when I take wine around to friends. Drinking at home is the easy part.
Just back from Bruges and Northern france, very nice wine shop on the ring road in Bruges, would recommend if you are in the area, had some stunning food and wine, first bottle of Belgium Pinot Noir, there might not be a second - wine of the holiday Saint Joseph Blanc Bernard Grippa 2024 sublime with dinner (if not a little expensive €125, but it was in Michelin star) Dampt Pinot noir real great match for the Duck
) excellent sancerre from Henri Bourgeois one of my favorite growers (they also have a superb hotel in Chavignol) brought a selection back from Bruges, love this Petite Brugeois not seen it in UK
I love the Sancerre Rouge made by Henri Bourgeois - one of my favourite styles of PN
I’ve never been that lucky with Malbec. I’ve had a few that were very nice, but most have been a bit… “meh”, and some utterly foul. This is one of a pair of bottles that were gifted to me. Not bad, but nothing special either. Ho hum…
I’ve given up on Malbecs ( except the black wines of Cahors) - they just don’t seem able to scale the heights
