lol I like to think I have a few years left I have already given Roon 700+ for the annual knowing my luck if I purchased it now they would wind it up.
I wonder if the OP has taken anything from the many responses, he/she not having made any comments beyond the quip about wasting people’s time, nor sought any clarification…
Haha, at least he has accomplished that we could indulge ourselves once again in a part of our hobby…
I have found that a bit perfect CD rip, stored on a local SSD will sound different to an internet streamed album. I do not know why yet? Maybe because the CD rip is bit perfect, the stream has to travel a long way over whatever transport is used. If you are using Roon, and your internet goes down, you can still use it to stream your locally stored music too.
LMS is no longer updated by Logitech, and it also does not support all the formats that Roon does. There are a lot of third parties that will still support LMS.
LMS is now open source - has an active user & developer community. All Wiim devices (apart from the Mini) are LMS enabled end-points. Lots of extra plugin features. Runs on Linux, Mac, Windows, even Android.
Different question as I was inquiring why Echolane might need to rip all of his CDs again.
I assume by “internet streamed album”, you mean via a service like Tidal or Qobuz (which offer bit perfect albums as well these days in the FLAC format, by the way). Great topic and there’s many older discussions on it. If you’re interested, check them out via the search function.
Has anyone here tried the Roon sample rate conversion? Is it any good from your own experience?
Here’s an example of the versatility of Lyrion (LMS) - multiple endpoints. The Sonos Roam is currently playing a CD, while Muso QB2 is streaming a German radio station

Yes, I use Roon to change PCM/FLAC to DSD, there is an obvious uplift.
Cool, that sounds like a plus point for Roon.
Understood, unless you buy a Grimm MU-2, then all you need is an amplifier & speakers.
Bye bye to all those PCs and cables, oh and the Naim streamer, Naim external power supplies, Burndy cables etc.
It’s quite a box. Not cheap but simpler and less expensive than a separates equivalent.
Just sayin’

Grimm MU-2
Then the question is how good does Grimm MU-2 sound? Can it put up a good fight against top-of-the-line streamers from Naim, Linn?
Good question Sean. In our experience, yes and it’s a slightly scary thought…

Hi Bluesfan, how does it stack up on the timing and rhythm front? I’ve seen it described as polite. I ask because I’m thinking about buying one.
One of the problems of the grimm mu2 is that you could be stranded if Roon goes belly up.
Well Sean, let’s look into that.
Roon is owned by Harman International, whose parent is Samsung Electronics.
I honestly recommend that you ask a dealer to allow you to audition it against equivalents from Naim, DCS, MSB, Linn and Chord Electronics.
Only then can you decide.
At this level, personal preference is important, so only you can decide.
Best regards, BF
Interesting from the Grimm MU2 manual: Ethernet cables “……Please use high-quality cables intended for use with computer systems and avoid cables with claimed special qualities for audio.”
Interesting point of view from Grimm Audio, and I tend to agree with them. I’ve attended a number of demos held by Gilad, and I only see he uses regular, well-constructed cables.
A potential private buy so a dem is not possible. I was just curious about your thoughts on that particular aspect of its performance.
