Why don't dealers charge for home demos?

Come off it we all know all Hifi equipment is grossly overpriced. Doesn’t matter what company it is Proac speakers put £249 on there D20Rs overnight early this year. The only way to listen is to borrow an item in your home just for a few days.

selling high end Hi Fi is about building trust and relationships. I’ve used the same couple of hifi dealers for years and their investment in home demos has paid off when I’ve upgraded. I have used only two dealers in the last 15 years - one is based in the midlands (UK) and travelled over 100 miles to bring the S20’s to my house to demo. He was fairly sure I would keep them, but it was by no means guaranteed. Needless to say he has a first class reputation.
