Why is radio sound so “bloated/boomy”?

Basically you are getting the rubbish quality of the source material, whatever it is, with high accuracy.

I think it’s true to say that 320 kbs 48kHz AAC is the same as Radio 3 HD. So it will sound great if the source material is great.
