Picked up a bargin wiim amp at the maverick show, and decided to bung it into the main big rig tonight, why you might ask?, well why not.
I didn’t get it for this reason, but after getting the wiim ultra, to use with my muso mk1, I was so taken with it, that I decided to get the wiim amp for when I am away in the motorhome, etc. As this little class D amp has a built in streamer and dac, so a complete system in a very small box, just add some very small speakers and holiday set up sorted.
But tonight I tried it connected to the kudos titan 808’s, very much not what the wiim was designed to be paired with. The results well I will get to that later.
But I also while I was at it, decided to run my dCS vivaldi stack into the wiim, again through the 808’s, well again I will get to that later.
But for what I paid for this little amp, less than half the RRP, and it’s only just over £300 new, I can certainly see why class D is where it’s all going to end up, plus i can certainly see trouble ahead for manufacturers as this little, extremely cheap box certainly can hold its own with much more expensive gear. I will let you ponder over that and report back on what I hear soon.
When you sell the expensive electronics and run Wiim electronics for good in your main system then I’ll think about taking you seriously. Actions speak louder than words.
I will do a right up tonight, as last night was certainly fun and went on till late, of to work in a bit so not much time to go into much at the moment.
Putting that much money into a DAC that will be obsolete in a few years… it will still be good, but there are better options for much less money. Ultimately, everyone can do what they want with their money!
