Well I won’t mention the ski jumping controversy, but I will mention Snoop Dog popped into the curling this morning - apparently it raised a cheer.
I enjoy the Winter Olympics, they always feel a bit more fun than the summer games. Egos seem a bit smaller. However a lot of events rely on subjective judging which tends to result in fairly predictable outcomes. Events measured against the clock or the tape-measure have a bit of purity about them.

I enjoyed the opening ceremony, glitzy but with some panache, a little Eurosilliness, some good performances too and while clearly not cheap, it didn’t come across as OTT on the budget.
And yes we look forward to Winter Olympics every time.
I found the opening ok, but it was much less impressive than the Paris Olympics…
Which was, let’s face it, hilarious…
…but unintentionally so.
Quite enjoyed the opening ceremony. Very classy imo.
Men’s Downhill this morning was fantastic. Jesus, the winner was shifting some!

I’m enjoying the curling
too.
I didn’t watch the opening ceremony; but for pure emotion May I suggest you watch the medal races for the women’s 3000m speed skating. Just brilliant.
Yes, was very exciting. Racing against the clock
really is heart stopping.
Indeed, being Dutch I still think the right person won!
Women’s Downhill just started. Great conditions!

Solid worst result for Vonn.
After such a buzzing expectation the fall came with a genuine shock.
My best wishes for her recovery..
Anyone else watch and enjoy the snowboarding big air final last night? We completely got into it, joking about the jargon and scoring it from the sofa. Above all what a fantastic atmosphere between the competitors of mutual respect and shared joy. Really good fun. Elite sport without the egos.

Fantastic event ![]()
The skill and bravery on show is incredible.
Stelvio holding up well. Magnificent…
The combined downhill and slalom a winner in my eyes…as a complement to the individual events of course.
Interesting, quaint and quirky moment in the short track skating. Presenting a form and 100 dollar note to the judge when registering a complaint.
The jargon is simply extraordinary. At the commencement of each run some of the contestants were described on screen as having a ‘Goofy stance’.
Agree about the sportsmanship on display, it was remarkable.
Goofy is ‘right foot’ forward.
Regular is ‘left foot’ forward.
As in how you stand on a snowboard
and drive down a mountain in your natural and strongest stance.
I’m a snowboarder
and ride naturally in Goofy stance.
It’s also great if you can learn to ride ‘switch’. Which means you can charge down the mountain both ways. It gives you a lot of flexibility when presented with different terrain and obstacles.
Every day’s a school day?
Thanks for the gen.
Out of interest do they wear any body protection under the baggy clothes? Body or back armour (like downhill MTB riders)?
