Witch hat cables

Hi All,

Anyone recognises these cables? How do they perform and where would you place them in the Naim/chord hierarchy?

They look to be standard WH DIN to XLR and WH Morgana DIN to XLR.

Can’t comment on Morgana but I still use the WH standard DIN to XLR and found it a step up in refinement over the stock lead.

But hierarchy is tricky. There’s nothing wrong with the stock lead and there are many who prefer it over any price of WH, Chord or other. So preference is probably more key.

I find the standard WH DIN to XLR very close in character to the standard Naim cable with a layer of grain removed from the top end. If they are in your possession, I’d suggest trying them.

Note, they appear to be a stereo configuration for NAP300 or 500.

The Morgana is DIN to RCA phono.

Or is it RCA to DIN? I think there is a direction marker on the cable.

I tried WH Morgana cables and kept them. I found the sound cleaner than standard Naim cables and fractionally better than Hi-lines. I have not compared them to Chord or Superlumina.

Having said that, SQ improvements (not just changes on treble/bass balance) from cables are generally pretty small and ‘the one that comes in the box’ is always a decent choice.

I agree with your assesment, particularly with respect to highline. All my interconnects are Morganna. I wish they were still available. No idea what to do with those fancy boxes though.

I wonder if the Morgana is a DIN4 to RCA for a non Naim power amp or DIN5 to RCA interconnect. And if so, which direction? It will only work one way around.

Looks like an arrow to me.

I have a a Morgana phono to DIN connector I think looks like that. I can’t check at present though - not at home!

And @Buns

My Phono to DIN Morgana interconnect has that arrowed collar in the same location as do my DIN to DIN Morgana interconnects - ie at the source end - and presumably the arrow shows the ‘direction of travel’.

That second one looks like the Morgana DIN to XLR which I use with my 300DR. These cables were a definite step up from the Naim standard XLR cables (kettle leads).

Anyone knows what’s a reasonable price for these secondhand?

for my ND555 > 252 interconnect, i tried Hiline, Morgana and Super Luminar. And my preference, the SL beat Morgana, Morgana beat hiline.
I still have morgana for the rest of the interconnect chain to the NAP300DR, but will probably try SL in the SC>300DR link at some point.

For those still wanting new Morgana cables, JJ@thatcham may still be able to supply.

With regards 2nd hand prices, look at ebay completed auctions.

Yes, I made this move too for my 300DR and it was a brilliant upgrade

I have since upgraded the 300DR to 350 monoblocks and had the Morganas reconfigured for mono and they’re glorious.

About half what they were new appears to be the rate on ebay.

Seems they can. Just ordered some so thanks for the tip!

I went down the WH rabbit-hole, but ended up back with all naim. The stock cables are very good.

While stock Naim cables are surprisingly good, WH are a worthy upgrade in my experience.

Top is the Hat Pin cable line (a rough equivalent to Lavender).

Bottom is Morgana. I use a Morgana DIN to DIN between my NDX 2 and Supernait 3. Solid improvement on the Naim Lavender cable (which I still have because it’s still excellent).

All quiet on Witch hat……they did do some good cables are they under a different guise/name?

So the top one not really a big upgrade over the stock cables?
