Witch hat cables

I used the hatpin over stock cables and prefeered them. They are shielded, whereas regular naim cables tend bot to be.

No, the company has not resurfaced. JJ is an independent service engineer who used to do some work for them, and is currently able now to make up interconnect cables equivalent to the witch hat cables, but are not branded as such.

I have Witch Hat Spectre speaker cables and theyā€™re the greatest speaker cables Iā€™ve ever owned. Such a pity the company went out of business.

Iā€™m a bit surprised that the Witchhat intellectual property (the cable manufacturer) was not sold when the receivers were called in. I expected that whoever bought the IP would be selling WH-designed cables.

I doubt WH were the manufacturer. I wonder how much IP there could be in the assembly of parts made by others. Would be mainly know-how I think. There could be something genuinely new and inventive, but it would seem that most IP would be in the manufacture process of the copper/other materials and parts.

The IP would be in whose cable they used. There is no way WH made cable. At best they had it made for them to their spec. At worst, it was off the shelf by a regular cable manufacturer.
But that knowledge, required to carry on like for like production would have value.

They used to test samples from a Taiwan supplier and then bought a reel.

So someone is building cables with material from Witch hat era which many customer paid for and never got? Fresh.

I found the Morgana between 552 and 300 to be a significant upgrade over the stock cables.

It was with 52 and 300DR too.

For me cables are the most personal things in hi-fi.

I have some Whit-hat cables and overall like the presentation. However now as I write this, remind me that I should switch it back and see if I still like them. I have found preferences can change over months and years and as other parts of the system change.

I suggest that cables are like tinted windows. Different cables give you a different tint to your world. Some make your world clearer or bright or pink or whatever! In general they donā€™t make the window any bigger!

I use Morgana for all my interconnects. In my system (282,SCDR, 250DR, Dynaudio) I much preferred their open and detailed sound to the standard Naim ones they replaced. At the time there was a lot of forum chat about them, some preferred them to SL which were almost double the price, some didnā€™t.
I also preferred their second level speaker cables to the much more expensive Nordost Red Dawn, Rev2 they replaced. Unfortunately they went bust before they could deliver the Spectre speaker cable I had ordered.
It is worth remembering that WH cables were far cheaper than most, if not all of the other high end cables they were compared to.
Best wishes Amer

Itā€™s a real shame you missed out on Spectre. They are utterly fabulous. I was lucky enough to be one of the very few customers to get it.

I too missed out on Spectre. Had to battle with my CC company for months over it.

BUT, though I love my Phantomsā€¦I really wish I could have gotten Spectre in my system.

For balance. I was one of the few sent ā€˜Spectreā€™ cables by WHA as part of a testing group on here. In 2022 I wrote the following results back to them:

ā€œNow that the cable/system has settled since connecting up on Saturday Iā€™ve had a proper sit-down listen these past weeks. Really noticing the step-up in performance over Phantom. Itā€™s an accumulation of incremental improvements across a number of things; transparency, detail, timbres, perceived depth and width - all in a balanced way - that makes a most enjoyable listen, and it is ā€˜enjoyableā€™, but perhaps lacking a bit of drive - or ā€˜oomphā€™ for want of a better word.

The characteristics of recessed high frequency are how things started with me but then the cable (or my ears, or both) settled down but one thing Iā€™m slightly niggled by is that Iā€™m not rushing to play music thoughā€¦is everything just a bit too reservedā€¦polite if you will? I swapped it out for some Kudos KS-1 at the w/e to give me another comparator and that surprised me - a more immediate and, dare I say it, insightful listen that keeps me more engaged than ā€˜Spectreā€™ in its current form.

Sorry Mitch. It is maybe my Proac Tab 10 Sig just not suiting - and needing something less refined than ā€˜Spectreā€™.

Iā€™m well aware I may be an outlier in the group and hope others are more helpful.ā€
