Thought the right channel on the Atom HE was corrupt but now find that it’s like signal polarity and the 2/3 pins need to be switched on one end. Anyone had this issue. HE output from XLR to Marantz mm 7025 to Wharfedale Lintons 85th. Simple hook up (Neutrik connectors) results in no right channel response.
Maybe you all figured this out. Turns out one of the custom XLR cable pin configurations was European, the other cable USA. Problem solved. Vendor is making a new pair, 1 meter length. Hope this helps someone out there with a similar issue.
I think this had been mentioned a while back on another thread. The balanced inputs on most equipment actually has a polarity switch to adjust which pin is hot. Naim’s new power amps unusually do not have this feature and it seems neither does your Marantz.
If you make up balanced XLR to single ended RCA then the cables just need to be made from the outset to match the output configuration. Naim do include an output diagram and leads can be tested against that with a multimeter set to continuity mode.
If a truly balanced system then it should still have worked, just one channel would be 180 degrees out of phase relative to the other.
I have encountered XLR inputs on equipment where pin 3 (cold) is just linked to ground so not balanced at all.
I should add that if the output of the device connected with hot and cold swapped to such an input is what’s termed impedance balanced then there isn’t a signal on the cold pin so silence would be the result.
