I have six devices (four naim boxes) that need to be plugged in, but only have four wall outlets. Considering one of the four outlets is needed for the power strip, one of four black boxes needs to go to the power strip.
Among XPSDR, HCDR, NAPSC, and 250DR, which one would you plug into the power strip?
I am not sure it is the source or digital PS for the pre.
For reference, power strip is SoTM MT-1000, and non Naim devices are Roon Nucleus and SoTM network switch, power cables are all PLs for Naim boxes and the power strip, and Jorma Origos for Roon and the switch.
Hypothetically I’m not sure that putting the NAPSC on the power strip is such a good idea. Its purpose is to provide clean power to the preamp digital controls independently from the main power supply, but connecting it to a block with potentially dirty power still provides a physical link between those SMPSs and the pre.
I would put the Nuc and switch in a completely different location, isolating them from the sensitive HiFi equipment, preferably in a different room. Then you have 4 wall sockets all available for the Naim boxes and a tidier rack with fewer cables and no mains block cluttering up the floor.
Thank you for your advice.
I just did A-B, and found out Napsc into power strip vs Xpsdr into power strip sounds more detailed and open. The other way has more oomph and sounds organic though.
Thank you for the advice.
I know moving network devices away is ideal, but that is not domestically possible for now.
Only options I have are plugging in either Napsc or Xpsdr into the power strip.
Just did A-B, and they have different presentations. Not so sure what I prefer. Will have to take time and decide.
Might be worth trying all your Naim kit plugged into the power strip, with the other kit directly into the wall sockets. If it’s a simple strip (not star wired) plug the HiCap in nearest the cable entry end, followed by the PSC and lastly the power amp. That way you minimise noise from the miscellaneous kit finding its way into the Naim kit. You might lose a little in terms of ‘fireworks’ but may be musically more coherent.
