XPS2 operating temperature

Hi, I’m looking for experiences of XPS2 operating temperature, as the thread title would suggest!

I have noticed for a little while now that my XPS2 runs quite a lot warmer than any other component, such as Supercap, 250, Hicap2, CDX2, NDS, etc….

Most of my components generate very little heat.

It is more on par with my Unitiserve, if that’s any indicator?

I’d be interested to know if this is usual?

Many thanks for any input!

Really need numbers to assist you.

Do you have an IR thermometer? Even a cheap one could provide relative data.

intrigued, i just got my IR thermometer out.

top shelf supercap DR 27.3C
next shelf down XPS DR 27.4C
bottom 300DR PS 26.4C

Ambient air 23.5C

so not much in it really, the system has been quiet for an hour, but has spent the previous few hours belting out Queen and volumes loud enough to have my apple watch nagging about loud noises.

My XPS2 has always run stone cold.

Ambient of 21.7C, playing jazz below 80dB:

SN3 - 24.8C
NDX 2 - 23.7C
Roon Nucleus Titan - 23.8C

In cabinet (with open rear):
HCDR - 24.2C
XPS DR - 24.3C
Plixir Elite BDC 19V/4A - 29.3C

Sorry for the random platter; still unpacking from the move. :face_with_head_bandage: :grimacing:

Thank you all for the replies.
As usual, above and beyond my expectations!
I was only hoping for some rough comparatives!

It seems that perhaps I had better dig out my thermocouple as my XPS2 is significantly warmer than the other components……

Streamers are a higher load than CD players or a Naim DAC for example so I’d expect it to be a tad warmer.

The CDS3 is a pretty high current load with the transport, servo and 30+ voltage regulators internally.
When I disconnect my high energy stores XPS with no load attached, it takes almost 20 seconds for the front light to go out, but with the CDS3 attached that happens in under a second.

…ah, apologise. minor mistake, i forgot i replaced my XPS DR a couple of months ago with a 555PS DR…so ignore my readings…

Thank you all.
I hadn’t considered the load.
The XPS2 in question is running an NDS.

(Today, I’ll finally take some measurements)

This is why you cannot run a streamer on an Olive XPS. Too much current draw.
