An AV3 would be great indeed.
Yes, I think it is very, very difficult in today’s environment to be a hi-fi manufacturer for everyone. Not that Naim ever has been!
I have a good few years of Hi Fi left in me!
With all respect, I was trying to say that the forum is not a cross section of Naim users, but merely a group of people with an ‘above-average’ interest in the brand.
Agree… in the late 80s I was responsible for getting a decent system for an Oxford College student bar. I listened to a few and got a nice Yamaha amplifier and a Denon CD. They got stolen a year later and someone else then replaced them with a NAD - sounded horrible in comparison…
I think the issue is that the Atom is excellent value and far far better than any 20 year old equivalent. You have to move quite a bit up in the separates line to beat it. So the ‘mid range’ hasn’t been abandoned, it’s been eaten by the entry level.
I asked a number of dealers about a green logo XS3 or SN3 (new or ex-demo). No luck. The XS3 or SN3 were my first upgrade options and both are now EOL. Oh well…I do n’t really need an upgrade now anyway.
I’m surprised if the dealer can’t retro-fit a green logo. Naim must still be able to supply spare logos.
I will send an email to the distributor for The Netherlands and ask them. Maybe they know a dealer that could to that.
Slight aside to the above.
I was just browsing around on the McIntosh website (don’t ask) and saw that there’s a whole section dedicated to ‘McIntosh Legacy Products.” Listing every model they’ve made with photos, brochures, and manuals.
Surely Naim can do this as well.
I’m not sure it’s wholly about business decisions, and probably a state of confusion as to where to go next. They were rather caught on the hop by the need to kill off the Supernait, a great amplifier and one of their bestsellers. The big question seems to be whether they need something between the Nova and the 222/250. While the latter costs three times the former, it’s perfectly possible to add the 250 and later trade the Nova for a 250. Do they really need a 100 combo that sells for £6,000 or £8,000 to fill the gap? Would that simply dent the sales of the 200 series, rather than generating more profit?
I strongly suspect that we will see some Focal speakers with Class D Naim amps on board in the future. I’ve droned on about my speakers to the point of tedium, but for just over £4,000 - two thirds the price of a new NAP250 - you get an active crossover, two 100W amplifiers in each speaker and, of course, the speakers themselves, giving an SQ that puts many passive power amp / speakers combos to shame.
As has so rightly been said, Naim need to look to their future customers. Who would want all those separate boxes when one can do it all?
But some of us have taken note. I now fully believe that this is the way forward for me and my forever system. Unfortunately Naim do not offer a suitable single box option to replace my NDS/52/135 combo otherwise I’d be seriously considering it. A pair of premium active speakers are step 1 which hopefully will be concluded in the next few weeks. Step 2 will be the front end in just over a years time as funds come in. Seriously impressed with the Edition hub with dual mono organik so it will be interesting next year to see if the impression lasts.
Would be very interesting to know how many SN3s get sold in a year. We know that they couldn’t shift 1,973 N50s at £3k. So they must be selling less than that for a unit that costs significantly more?
And it pairs very well with active speakers, in my case ATCs. Listening never leaves me pondering the next upgrade, just wanting to play more music, very definitely an endgame setup. The only change I’d ever consider making now is to active 50s but they’d be overwhelming in my room.
I’ve been an enthusiast for pre/streamers with active speakers for a few years now, even before HH saw the light of day! It was the demise of the 272 with no obvious replacement that pushed me towards an Auralic Vega G2, and active speakers were an obvious partner. I know from chatting with my then dealer that I was not his only customer to make that move.

I don’t think that follows. On paper specs the SN is way ahead of the N50 and I suspect that will influence many outside the forum. And the little Nait is encumbered by no remote, only DIN sockets, low power and a retro design with limited appeal to non Naimees.

That’s why I asked the question. Inquiring minds want to know.
And enquiring minds recognise that not all statistics are meaningful. Comparing sales figures for two very different products being a case in point.

The NL distributor had 1 XS3 demo unit with green logo/led. It’s coming my way with a nice discount ![]()
Nice! Good on Latham Audio!
I genuinely would like to know how many SN3s get sold in a year. If you don’t know, just stay out of the way.
