Your favourite trainsets. French TGV, Shinkansen, CP, Steam……

As requested by @frenchrooster a favourite Trainset thread.

The Shinkansen is pretty impressive.

Video of how it has developed over the past 60 years, and into the future.
(don’t worry, the girl at the start of the programme isn’t in it for long :grinning:).

I like ‘my’ ‘virm’. It’s a train designed for the Dutch railways and o so comfortable:

The Netherlands is small so high speed trains doesn’t make sense here. We need high capacity trains with wide doors so that many people can get in and out in a short time.

After having been the fastest in the world in the past, the Shinkansen was gradually overtaken by the French TGV which broke the rail speed record at 515 km/h

VIVA LA FRANCIA !!

Both have one serious competitor, the Shangai Maglev :

My favourite train set - pre and post war Hornby Dublo.

Can anyone spot the mistake…?

Can’t spot the mistake but pipes were still popular by the time I had my first train set arrive one Christmas.

Very modern 1960’s transcontinental set.

I still have the Hornby Dublo, though currently stored at Dad’s… it was my Dad’s when he was a kid and I added to it with him when I was young…
What locos do/did you have?
We have the black 0-6-2 tank, plus the Duchess of Montrose… wonderful metal models.

I do like a pretty train, but, as an engineer I don’t care how ugly this one might be. It’s my favourite.

After the BBC, NHK World is the channel I watch the most.

Trains, Science, Medical, Nature, Design, Art, Culture and best of all SUMO.

It’s available on Virgin and Sky, strangely categorised as a news channel, but only 10min per hour is news.

A similar story with me. I inherited my Father’s Hornby Dublo and then added to it over the years. It’s all boxed up at the moment. I keep meaning to build a nice layout, but always too much other stuff taking up my time.

My favourite loco is a pre-war Sir Nigel Gresley. I also love the pre-war wooden buildings and lead figurines.

I’m impressed with their content, some very interesting content to catch up on, wasn’t aware it was on Sky, but apart from the sport, not been a regular sky viewer either.

The various Shinkansen’s are fantastic, beats flying a lot of the time. But I really love this little two car mountain railway set out of Kyoto.

Certainly when we were last there the charm is added to by all the drivers wearing white gloves, and the weird pointing rituals I guess they are trained to do every time they pass a signal. Great fun.

I remember getting on the train at the station under Kansai (Osaka) Airport the first time - the white gloves, the pointing, the cleaning staff bowing, it was quite the show!
