I like their father and son photography and the ‘Start your own tradition’ strapline in their ads in the glossies.
At the other end of the quality scale, I came across this Kays pocket watch which I had forgotten about. The initials on the back of the case are those of my maternal Grandfather’s brother who was killed in WW1. The back case is 925 silver and I am trying to work out the date from the hallmarks, but it must be pre 1918. I need to give it to my Mum’s side of the family. I’m wondering if it was military issue.
Ironically, I worked for Kay’s of Worcester in the 80s and 90s when they were the UKs largest Catalogue brand.
I’ ll also consider this in 36
That is a beautiful timepiece, a true classic.
That is lovely, a great looking watch.
That’s such a nice watch. I love the way the bezel is covered in scratches from regular wear. It somehow seems wrong to buy a nice watch and wrap it in cotton wool. My JLC is worn every day and when the first marks appeared I was slightly concerned, and then thought what the hell? It’s maybe worth noting that your Calatrava, the Grand Seiko and my JLC all have Dauphine hands. Unlike the Calatrava my JLC is quite complicated, but because of the understated and symmetrical design it doesn’t appear cluttered. Not to me anyway!
My Fav. With the Mark XV a close second.
Both the wimbledon and mint green dials are the more sought after in the datejust collection. Was fortunate to get this. 36 is a good size too.
I never liked the shorter fatter hour markers on the XV. The simple elongated hour marker on the XII makes a visually lighter and more elegant face imho. In fact, I don’t think any of the iterations after the XII improve on it.
The triangle at 12 is not equilateral on the XII and has more space around it. Also, the slightly thinner numerals are nicer. Small things, but they matter.

A lovely watch , wonderful proportions and perfect size for your wrist , but too complicated for me .
A perfect match for Olive series
The Xll is definitely more refined.
I do like the no tritium on the later XV dials.
I prefer both of these versions on the Buffalo leather strap.
Cheers.
I agree. The bracelet doesn’t suit the watch at all imho.

Panerai PAM312 just back from full service and fitted with a new Luna Rossa strap. They’ve done a great job; it’s like having a brand new watch.
A brand new 1965 for my birthday celebrations, that I have started quite a bit early this year.
It makes a funny lap of honor every 65 minutes.
A celebration of NASA’s qualification for “all human flights” of the Speedmaster.
I needed one to fly on my 60th lap around the Sun, wish me good luck.
Rather fussy I’d say .. but each to his own.
