Has anyone else noticed that the removal of this exemption, originally due to be ended in spring 2029, has now been brought forward to autumn 2028. I reckon that this will make my small orders of cds from Japan and the U.S. unaffordable especially when factoring in the additional charges that the various couriers are sure to introduce.
A possible solution could involve a forum name change ……. FlacFan ….

no i hadnt… thats sneaky as i occasionally order a few cigars from a german site as they are soo much cheaper keep to just below £100.. best stock up but tbh what i have will probably see me out for 5-6 yrs!

I ordered something from them for the first time earlier this year. It will be the last. Your description fits - but surely that fact should make it self limiting!
I don’t know if this change applies to EU countries? If it does it will hit lots of small imports that many people have continued with post B, e.g. coffee from Italy as I have just purchased, and a multitude of other things.
Scrabbling around for the tax on £135’s here and there, says just how stony broke we are as a country doesn’t it?

It’s designed to help level the playing field between high street retailers and online businesses. Anything that can be done to support the high street must surely be applauded.

It’s not a few quid here and there. It’s a massive tax avoidance scheme that needs stopping . Hopefully hrmc will target Amazon next. It is surprising how here in France they manage to apply the correct tax whereas in the UK it seems unnecessary.

Tax is already applied in Japan. I think it’s fair enough to pay tax on an item in the country of purchase personally.
It’s the import duty that is changing and hurts if over £135. And ‘admin’ fees being attached!
But the items, including tax, are still cheaper than UK retailers for SACD, SHMCD and the like, including tax.
In Japan, SHMCD is kinda just a CD. UK retailers seem to feel they can double or triple the price for the SHM bit…

No. The British high street and crap from Temu are absolutely not the same.
Why? Online purchasing is so much better for most “day to day” items, with much more choice available. Physical face to face retailing is really only appropriate for high value specialist items.

Absolutely. An infinite supply of sweatshop crap. If that’s what you want, fill your boots. Then you can go to the local high street and wonder why the only shops are shuttered, or charity shops.

Must be an Emsworth thing, we’ve got vape shops, phone shops, coffee shops, dodgy haircuts, pound shops, used tech shops, more dodgy haircuts AND……… (wait for it, drum roll) charity shops! We feel truly blessed
