Thanks for a fascinating read with my first coffee of the day.

Yikes, the moment I saw the speakers my deceased uncle had and realised we had the Tannoy in our family.

The early Marantz stuff is gorgeous.

I’ve come across a couple restored JBL Paragons that were far far more expensive than those quoted in the article.

I think I must have stumbled upon half of these gems. Sometimes still in use in a cafe.

Fantastic! I always had a passion and still have for period Levinsons and Audio Research, those Marantz & C. are great too

Thanks L0ki. I had a yearning for the Nakamichi Dragon back in the day but it was completely out of my range in the early 80’s. A Technics stack mounted separate unit was the order of the day for me at around £400.

I would take 3: The Marantz model 9, the Koetsu Rosewood, and the Day Sequerra.

Are they the Kenrick Sound restored ones. I’ve watched a few videos of them installing them into homes and bars in Japan.

I have no idea who restored them, sorry. The most expensive one I ever saw was on the luxury item floor of Daimaru department store off Tokyo Station. All jewelrey and watches and apparel boutiques for Cartier and Bvulgari etc. And then just this glass room with maybe less than 10 vintage restored bits of hifi in it and nothing else and the attendant in formal ware. The Paragon was in mint condition and playing music through a 1960s era Sansui integrated amp.

The sound reminded me a lot of my old Bose 901s. Depending on your view of 901s, that’s either very good or very bad. I thought it was great. The Paragon creates quite a massive soundstage.
