I agree that the 300 is a real step up in performance at low volume. I have just replaced 250.2 with a preloved 300 (non DR) on the end of my 272/555 and have really noticed this difference. I listen predominantly to classical music and have to watch the volume where I live but last night listened to Thin Lizzy (Johnny the Fox) and Tangerine Dream (Rubycon) which I haven’t listened to completely for years.
Indeed, that was the very reason I chose the 300DR over the 250DR in the first place.
Of course the 300DR resolves better, provides more details and has a better grip on speakers allover the frequency range.
But its ability to have a proper control on speakers at low volume is really pleasurable. Especially for late evening listening

Absolute nonsense. If the cable touching the ground diminishes the quality of an amplifier by 10% then it is poorly designed. Both the amplifier and the cable.
I sold my non DR 300 to someone upgrading from a 250DR. He was stunned at the difference the 300 made. It cost him relatively little to swap over too. Those used standard 300s are an absolute bargain at the moment.
The DR 300 is better but not by a massive amount.
I’d advise anyone who’s running 250.2 or 250DRs if they have the space for an extra box to look out for one.
You are half right. I agree that Naim is very sensitive to install and optimise. Specially the burndys, a lot of threads on it and people who experienced bad or good stressing burndys. I too.
2 years ago I placed my ps on another rack. The improvement was immediate.
I sold my 300dr and have 250 dr. We are some here to prefer it to the 300dr. Not because it’s better, which is not of course, but because it works better with some rooms and speakers.
I’m reserving judgement but going from a pre owned 250-2 to a pre owned 300 was a backward step for me. I await the serviced upgraded 300DR to return before final decision on my preference.

I’m loath to run through my own story yet again, but believe me, in certain rooms, with certain speakers, the 300DR simply doesn’t ‘work’ anything like as well as the 250DR. Instead of telling others ‘X‘ is better than ‘Y’, we should simply relate our own experiences and encourage home demonstrations.
I mentioned the standard 300 v a 250DR. I’m saying that at used prices, give a 300 a listen before committing to a 250DR if you have the space.
You have the response by Timmo. The amp has to match the speakers and room characteristics.
I completely agree with RackKit post I sold my 250DR and with the funds added a further £600 then purchased a recently serviced none DR 300, its one of the biggest upgrades I have ever made.
Interesting discussion. I had a nap 300 years back and found it a tad anaemic.
Into S600 I got no bass…and I mean none.

One thing is clear: if there is no bass, it’s not the amp’s fault.
