250 vs 300

Mind you into dodgy speakers like my Isobariks the jump from 250 to 300 was also transcendent.

Good advice.

I did the 282 vs 252 comparison and ended up with a 52!

Best regards, BF

but was this with a SCDR?

252/250 over 282/300

In my case I demoed the 252 and 282 with Supercap DR, obviously compulsory for the 252.

Having recently purchased a 282/250DR if I was to change, it would be for a 552 and skip the 252.

Older but recently serviced 552’s go for about £9500-£10,000 on a well known auction site. Moving on a 282/HiCap or Supercap leaves you in a good position to make the jump when the time is right in my opinion.

I think Naim should have utilised the same power supply for the 252 and 552. I reckon there would be more 552 users if they had…

Not easily doable, as the NAC552 utilises a split rail supply

You are doing really nicely…the cans of spinach are working😬

I’ve had a 250.2, a 300 and a 300DR and each one has been a better performer than its sibling.
Changing from 250.2 to 300 gave better tonality, subtlety and control and the step up to DR gave the same improvements over 250.2 along with better dynamics and punch.
Not regretted buying any of them. Still love my Nait5i too.

Nothing a couple of link plugs couldn’t solve Richard.

In all honesty I don’t think I would entertain a 500 level system based on my room, I genuinely think it would be wasted. Not having a dedicated listening space, acoustic room treatment to a level that would be best is unfortunately never going to happen.

My room is 22m2

Same as mine popeye, see there is hope! :smirk: ATB Peter

Don’t tell me that! :joy:

You have your own room however!

Mine is 18m2 and has no acoustic treatment. Sounds good to me. Sometimes it would be nice to have a separate room for the stereo and the TV but then I wouldn’t want to be shut away in a cell somewhere with perfect acoustics and a single chair.

Mine sounded good to me also, until I heard @PeterR.
Yes it was a 500 level system but the room made it something else.

If you haven’t heard an acoustically treated room, get it on your bucket list, it’s a real eye opener!

The same here actually – personally I think Hi-Fi belongs into the living room where the entire family can benefit from the system. Also, to expose our son to “proper” music reproduction. Having said this I also see the beauty of a dedicated music room… We plan to have a family room soon (subject to the conversion of our loft…) – I am quite excited about having a second system there, but again this space the entire family will share.

I think if I decided to stick diffusers and panels all over the room Mrs HH would call the men in white coats. If the system doesn’t work in my room as is, then that’s just too bad. I’m not saying that treatment wouldn’t improve things, but simply that I wouldn’t go there. It sounds good enough for me.

That was my point, for this exact reason I wouldn’t go to a 500 level system, it would be utterly wasted.
