Don’t worry I wouldn’t post it here that would be fiendish. Stay away from the 552 thread tho :shushing_face:

Nah…Post your reactions here. I can’t justify the 552 economically (unless i find a stone bargain), but I like to read the paeans of praise anyway!

Then I play a record on my 252/300 and forget about the itch… :slight_smile:

Same here Stevie I’m not sure spending more on a pre will bring anymore musical enjoyment over my current 252DR/300 especially with a Dave as a source.

That’s me done with Naim upgrades but I do enjoy reading those who have moved up to a 552.

I do think the 552 would bring much more…but I’ve not heard one , not keen to ask my dealer for a dem in all honesty, as I think I would have to buy one if I did!

But…happily, I do forget about that next step whenever I put a record on.

Is your caps key stuck in the on position :grin:

no.

When I changed from an 82 to 252 my initial reaction was mixed but ultimately one of slight disappointment. It did all the classic hi-fi things much better than the 82, no question of that. But where had all the boogie and excitement gone? I have to say that I found both the 252 and the CDS3 to be the most ‘un-Naim’ like Naim pieces I’ve ever bought. By which I mean that they were both superb hi-fi but somehow for me lacked that magical X factor that makes Naim so enthralling to listen to. I discussed this on the forum at the time (many years ago now) and it was suggested that perhaps my burndy cables were not properly dressed or de-stressed. I would be surprised if this would make so much difference and I couldn’t really see what else I could do with them to be honest. Who knows. But it’s something that’s always puzzled and bugged me a bit.

I felt exactly the same as you about the CDS3 until we first heard it with a 555PS. That power supply made all the difference for us.

Stop shouting please.

Vicki (my wife) is an accountant and holds the purse strings but I’m fairly lucky especially with my recent 2021 purchases but even I know when not to cross the line!

@Desmond

My wife doesn’t object at all to the stereo, likes the look of Fraim etc. It’s the record and CD storage that raises her eyebrows. Although she hasn’t noticed the sub tucked away yet…but it’s hardly visible so fingers crossed.

You are so lucky. My wife’ s face is already looked interesting when I talk about loudspeaker. But we are not living together yet because of working situation, but will live together soon. So before this happens and to avoid potential problem, I sold my 202/200 and secretly upgraded to 282/250 which is the end game for me in Naim. And anyway she could not notice the difference between 202/200 and 282/250 (optically). And now I’m satisfied.

Lucky for you the NAPSC is so tiny!

Once you slide a SCDR in there its game over, 252 beckons or replace the 282/SC with a 552, boxes look the same and take up the same space - just hide your bank statements.

I may be even luckier, my wife just agreed that the next hifi upgrade will be for her birthday. I wonder if this a Forum first?!

No. There is a lot of talk on the forum that suggests women aren’t interested or are too dim to enjoy hifi/music in a way that only ‘real men’ can though. It makes me very cross.
