The 300DR presumably?
What a coincidence you have a PS1 in there - where’s the TV/screen? I recently resurrected mine and have it hooked up to the projector.
Or is it on CD playback duties???

Purely on CD Playback duty.
It’s the original model version, with the high end DAC and it has really engaging ‘analogue’ signature. It was an idea provided by @knaithrover and I am super happy with it.
My Cabinet Maker is going to make a new casement for it out of Cherry, so it will have the same finish as the LP12 when it’s done🙂
I think my PS 1 was bought virtually on release, how would I know if it has this high-end DAC or not?
If it has RCA Outs and is marked ‘SCPH 1002’ if a UK model.
The equivalent models in theUS and Asia are 1001 & 1003 I believe, but the RCA outs are a dead give away. All the other ones had that specialist integrated plug configuration I’m told.
Thanks, I’ll check - only resurrected it for the lad to see what the original was like (he has PS4 and PS5). Ok, it was really for Mrs AC to play Crash Bandicoot and Pandemonium!
Thanks I’d previously seen something about certain models of ps1 being a great cd player but didn’t know how to tell if I had the right one. I’ll have to unbox mine and look.
Found this from 2008, maybe better info out there:
I think I got my PS 1 in late 1995.
Even if you go for it I’d be tempted not to use it for weeks or a few months until you get to grips with the sonic changes from today’s upgrades.
Too many upgrades at a time can really make it difficult to appreciate what did what or didn’t help.
I made too many simultaneous upgrades a few years ago and wish I hadn’t as I can’t work out what did what. Unfortunately, especially with turntables you sometimes do several simply as you have travelled to a competent dealer to do so.
About the same time for me…it went to charity about 10 years later. If only I’d known it would be as good as my CD2 & 5X!
…or my CD 3.5
Well, we shall soon see if it sounds better than the current RCA IC🤔
If not, I’ll sell it…
Could you please confirm you were blown away by the 300DR?
Didn’t get one for aforementioned reasons but never had a chance to test a NAC 252 vs my NAC 282.
Blown away metaphorically, but actually gentled in reality.
The 300 DR alongside the 282 is by far and away the most musically gifted system I’ve ever owned. What’s more, it gives many more expensive systems that I’ve heard a very good run for their money.
I have a lot of listening to do and the 282 is brand new out of a sealed box, so it’ll need a while to fully get its legs under it, but the 300 DR definitely better than the 250 DR…
Did you try any of the following configurations before you settled with the 282/Hicap DR/300DR as the best sounding system?
282/Hicap DR/250DR
282/Supercap Dr/250DR
282/Supercap DR/300DR
FWIW I have the 282/Hicap DR/250DR
Yes, both of these…
The 282/HiCap DR/300 DR definitely came in ahead of both of those. Adding the SuperCap in the future is obviously a possibility, but legal council maybe required if this option is pursued in haste (as in the next 2 years)
Thanks for that.
For me, the order you listed is incrementally better each time.
The 282/HiCap DR/250 DR was super nice and definitely corrected some of the issues with the Evoke 50’s when driven by the 202/HiCap DR/200 DR and definitely was a huge hike in general. However, with the 300 DR replacing the 250 DR, the step change was very significant.
I will naturally test a SuperCap in the future, funds and marital harmony permitting, but it isn’t necessary to fulfil my desire for a great sounding system that I can listen to all day. I achieved that yesterday…
No cable is ‘worth’ that much.
YMMV.
Oh wow @IanRobertM, you make comments like that and you’ll have half the members on the forum preparing boxes of Popcorn
…besides, the existing RCA cable was nearly twice that price😉
I hate Popcorn…
I do not own any ‘expensive’ cables - just the standard Naim ones - interconnects, SNAIC’s and NAC A5 ((plus a couple of cheap Chord IC’s).
If I was spending about £500, it would be on hardware. My last such purchase was a pre-loved Linn Kore.
Not A Believer - in expensive ‘wire’…
