2x555DR vs. 1x555DR on a ND555

Preloved

Hopefully not - it’s been on the want list for a year but never a priority. The price rise made me think of getting one and found a used on from an online search

It’s also led to an invitation to have a listen to PeterR’s S1 (and the rest of his kit) this week so looking forward to it all

Well done sourcing a used one. Happy listening at Peter’s and prepare for a surprise at the qualities that the S1 brings to the system :+1:

Will be trying not to hear anything from the S1 :joy:

Good luck with that one

That’s a wise decision :innocent:

I made that mistake with Soulution 7 series electronics.
What’s heard can’t be unheard :hear_no_evil:

From what @PeterR reported, the difference isn’t subtle :smiling_imp:

Very good, Peter

@TimOopNorth I note you saying you will go regular finish vs 500 on the Cd555PS however if I remember rigtly @Richard.Dane suggested that there had been comparisons at HQ and the 500 finish was sonically superior. Maybe a small % but if true the used price is fairly similar so may try to pick up a 500 finish is possible.

When I bought my 555psdr I was not aware of 2 choices re finish. I assume I got the brushed aluminum as it is smooth, like the finish on my 552.
The finish on my ndx2 is rough like fine sandpaper….I assume this would be the same finish as the less expensive finish option on 555ps, right?
What’s the price difference between the 2 different finishes of 555ps?

@davidf thats correct. You have the 500 finish. The difference is about £1k at retail.

Thanks for the tip but already agreed on a used one

And a top quality used one it is, if I may say so myself.

For some of us rule breaking is a life choice.
Some rules are meant to be broken, some challenged.
Some in the grand scheme of things don’t really mean much.

You are in for a treat Tim… that second supply really makes a big difference the music is so much more enjoyable and engaging…in every respect. Let us know how you get on.

Hi @TimOopNorth ,

Congrats!

It made a massive difference to my system.

The thing is that we get used to good sound pretty fast and forget how it was before. Auditory memory isn’t reliable. :innocent:

After a month or two, try disconnecting the second PS. It’s a quick change.

Then listen… and give us a feed back :sunglasses:

It’s in! Needs to warm up, but it’s in, with many thanks to help from Martin, a local naimee

Having looked inside the nd555 and looked at the bits and bobs inside, does it really need two power supplies?.……then picked up its Psu which is very heavy and would make most amplifiers just sing and sing…….you still think it is over the top. When you then add the additional power supply it just comes together musically.
