2x555DR vs. 1x555DR on a ND555

Very groove-tastic. Sounded a bit harsh to start with but the new one had been off for weeks if not months and ebwrything was turned off for about 90 minutes. An hour later and it’s warming up already and sounding great

Tidied up the cabling a bit as well while we were at it and had to bring a second mains block into action

Fab give it a couple of days and that 500 will be whipping those Titans…good and proper!!!

On my system the extra 555ps really improved slam…and dynamics…the Titans should really respond well.

Well I can report by seeing into the future that I have just wasted my money and it wasn’t worth it and will never sound any better but it does look a bit neater I suppose but…

(Any better?)

Thanks, Tim. Thought so.

You’ve dodged a bullet really by not getting it. It saves you hearing all the notes so it’s more relaxing :relieved:

….and I get to stay married. Always a bonus.

I mean, now I have it I will probably keep it - it fills an empty fraim shelf so cuts down on dusting!

With only room for six (ha!) Classic sized black boxes I thought long and hard about either the 300DR or additional 555PSDR.

300DR seemed a more logical step (from 250DR). Hope I’m right!

Looking at your system (and mine come to that) it would appear that the 250DR, although a brilliant amp that punches well above its weight IMV, had become the bottleneck. I am convinced you made the right move to the 300DR.

With the 500DR, I am certainly hearing how the 250DR was holding things back.

Tim you need to move it 2mm and it will suddenly be like night and day lol
But seriously when I tried a second power supply I couldn’t hear any difference and just looked over at the dealer and said " is that it then" I can see sort of a reason why it might make it better, but the power supply is already beefy and split into many power rails, so adding a second one, only to use a few power rails in both, doesn’t really add up, plus adding a second big noise transformer into the mix is not really a great thing to do.
But I guess once folk have splashed out thousands on a second power supply then most need to justify it and not many say it as they see or hear it.

But early days yet Tim as you need to leave it 2 weeks to warm up and settle down after it’s journey lol, but again joking aside, leave it in and remove it after a few weeks and see if you can tell, if not then sell it as what’s the point in keeping it.

That’s the best reason I have heard ever. Cannot argue with that one Tim. Happy Xmas from many Naimites😁

I’ve had a second 555PS on home demo for around a week now. Personally I’ve been amazed at the improvement it’s brought. To be honest I was expecting it to be marginal at best but it’s brought a lot.

Main findings are :

  1. The bottom end is cleaned up, much clearer. This has improved clarity across the whole range.

  2. A much fuller, weightier sound. Improved slam.

  3. As a consequence of 1 and 2 low volume listening is much better.

  4. Everything is more precisely positioned in the sound stage. Soundstage is both wider and deeper.

I was in the process of demoing new speakers when this pre-loved 555PS came up at a good price. I’d never really considered adding the second power supply as I wasn’t expecting this level of improvement but I think I’m now going to put the speaker project on hold as my current speakers sound all together different now. The 555PS isn’t going back !
