2x555DR vs. 1x555DR on a ND555

Maybe your dealer also knows a good divorce lawyer.

Agree Mike. I don’t think it’s going anywhere. They are hard to get second hard and this one has the 500 series finish too which is a bonus.

Three days after plugging in the second one and it’s sounding really rather lovely

I didn’t do any extensive baseline listening before it was installed so not really able to be terribly specific (and I am terrible at giving detailed descriptions of subjective things anyway - not just audio - eg my wife is much better at describing coffee flavours than I am). And I don’t want to say it’s x-degree of improvement when there is a danger I am making it up.

But - it is sounding uncommonly good. Not sure if there is any increase in bass - there was bass before, there is bass now. Not feeling any need to move the speakers due to increased bass (which someone warned me about) as there is absolutely no boom. There’s plenty of boogie factor (that is the only thing that I thought seemed better immediately, although we did spot a really beautiful, gradual decay on eg cymbals and guitar on Saturday morning)

Listened this morning to Jen Chapin on her Stevie Wonder covers album (which is her voice, double bass and a variety of saxes - rather nice stripped back album) and that sounded better than it ever has

You knew it would stay, just needed a few days for you to talk yourself into it. Lol
Enjoy

Some of what I said was to see the pressure on NigeB for yet another upgrade  but it was all sounding really excellent today

I have in fact already upgraded again after the 500DR. I have an ifi iPower X SMPS (£99) for my EtherREGEN.

Amazing! As good as a second PS555DR on the ND555. Wow, think how much I have saved.

Just think how much you all could have saved over buying a second power supply, should have just gone rossini, ha ha.

Tut tut!

Good to know the little iFi makes a big difference!

I was sceptical, as you know….

So the Ifi power made really a difference on the ER?

What is the ER? Is it a network switch?

Yes - short for EtherRegen

Thanks - I suppose I ought to think about this as well. I have the English electric switch. Are the PS’s very model specific?

They are mainly 12V without having a massive current draw, but I have no experience of the EE.

If the price is not a barrier, I’d recommend the Innuos PhoenixNet rather than fiddling with switches, power supplies and potentially OXCO clocks. You can get the on home demo…

I would second the innuos Phoenix net for your system.

£2600? :grimacing: erm not at the moment - just upgrading Office Atom to a Nova so that’s me well and truly spent up for the time being. Would also want to have a listen first

Gentlemen, I do have the ifi iPower X but I haven’t installed it yet! I was being naughty and told a fib as a rebuff to Tim’s cheeky comment trying to get me to go for a second PS555DR for my ND555. :grinning:

As my 500DR and SuperLumina cables are running in, I don’t want to make any other changes yet. When the ifi iPowe X goes in, I am not expecting much. It is a bit of a punt.
