3.12 Firmware

High spec DAC with modular streaming section?

Ensuring longevity and future proofing.

Better Separation?

Wonder if some tech types will develop cooked firmware to ones liking

Could Naim please publish exactly what they have done to our products?

It’s security updates. See here;

I would expect code and system level tuning at this level of granularity to be highly proprietary, trade-secret data.

I’m not turning down a more thorough change log, but I wouldn’t expect a technical walk through of what they did to optimize sound quality.

Hi, would you mind expanding on this?

I’m enjoying 3.12, thank you Naim.

Roy Gaines sounding epic, love the timing accuracy and with it that last grain of harshness is finally gone. @Darkebear nailed the description perfectly, “increase spatial and temporal resolution”.

No problem with more guttural tracks either. Rage has real bite and impact on Maggies Farm.

Digital 2 on, others off

Naim just need to get the app updated with webclient features if they are so adamant we can’t have it.

My NSC 222 did that pretty much from new. I had it repaired by Naim. All good now.

As an end user - I’m definitely at slightly lower revs and doing the same speed. Newer tyres, wind in my hair, and all of the other stuff…:eyes::thinking:

Hope that helps

I am very hesitant to install the update because of this…and also waiting for the Android app fix regarding Volume jump. Even if it seems consensual it’s a very good one!

Only just added it and I assumed it would be subtle if anything but it really is not! It’s what’s been missing a real sense of excitement but toneally less edgy so far. You can really hear the musicians especially cymbals and snare. It also sounds more out of the box but unlike before I don’t want to turn it down or off. So far so good

Update: I power cycled the ND5XS2 since that crash and it has been solid ever since (I did not do that right after the initial firmware update). Hope it will stay that way.

It makes me sound paranoid that it’s all in my head when they don’t advertise a change in sound but all I can hear is a massive improvement. I nearly sold my hifi this week as I wasn’t enjoying it anymore but not now this is back to how I remember it and some.:blush:

Hi @Marki , glad you’re happy with it. What was it that was missing for you prior to 3.12?

Everything :joy: it was flat sounding I have tried so much including cable change but it’s now 3d again music is jumping out at you and it’s not as course in the Highs. I had a hearing test as I thought I had lost the high end. But it’s back everything is more substantial but it’s not overwhelming just musical with more depth and excitement I still need more time to understand it!! My speakers are very revealing so I can hear any changes. I just wanted the music back and it is so far. Hope that helps

3D is the right description, the instruments are so separate, drums and cymbals are just superb. Voices are spookily realistic.

Finally got round to listening to my system post the firmware update.

Not going to use hi fi language to describe but suffice to say it sounds bloody good! Well done Naim.

This thread is starting to sound all too positive  I think the Naim boys and girls are silently watching this thread on refresh, because they can’t believe what they are reading. Compliments to them and their hard work!
