4.8 update and sound quality

Did you do a Factory Reset after the update?

And are you running latest version of Naim App?

Clare certainly the latest version. How do I do factory reset?

Bingo! :+1:

I think you are in the wrong thread Lindsay (unless you’ve bought something I don’t know about!) This is for the old Uniti and green screen streamers.

To factory reset the Qb, turn it on and then press the reset button, recessed in the back panel, for 6 seconds.

Do you have two streamers side by side, one updated and one not to be able to tell these differences? Amazingly specific recall if not

No doubt there is a different sound😀
Mere easy to listen to words to me with my degraded hearing. Detail, air around, wider and deeper.
Thank you Naim! Now my arm hair rises even more:grinning::+1:

I updated from 4.6 to 4.8 on my unitilite and immediately noticed a difference, not massive but discernably better on streamed sources.

The process was remarkably easy once I had coaxed my laptop to load the correct USB driver, initially it had told me input was ready for use but it lied. After a coffee and a bit of pondering which led to some investigation, I found the correct update ready for me in windows update under optional updates, after installing this, it was an easy and speedy process.

I have a 272 with xps dr and 250dr and was going to change for an accuphase amp with nd5xs2 as i dont want box count and it was amazing i have to say but this is no small upgrade on the quiet Naim? on my system its a big leap with the sound I wanted with the naim amp sound but if only I could get the hi res Radio I would be much happier and forgo Qubuz which is sad, Confused now but happy at the same time!

Get a Bluenode 2i and use as a streamer and you’ll have Qobuz, internet radio on FLAC and lots more. I use a Lumin U1 Mini and Qobuz+Roon and it’s super great!

Are you saying use this through the 272? Or instead of the streamer inside the 272? Or at the same time? Sorry getting my head round that!

You attach an external streamer to the 272 and run it directly into the DAC inside the 272 replacing the built in dated streamer.

Ok but use the existing 272 streamer for the music library? Cant see the bluenode being better than the naim for the melco! But i could use it for radio etc of course i dont have another shelf for it either but yes its an idea! Thanks

I am willing to bet naim do nothing to change the sound on these firmware updates and just roll their eyes when these posts come in.

Not correct according to those with insights in the Beta process and related discussions.

Nothing there is indicating the big differences people are talking about

I guess it’s a case of believe whatever you want
I know what I hear & that’s all I need to know
…… it will also be somewhat whole system & room setup dependant so people are most likely to have different opinions.

The following post from Naim contains some relevant information.

I can read that 12 members found a noticeable improvement with the 4.8 update. 7 observed a very clear uplift, some of these said “ whouah!”.
5 observed a little improvement.
All of these 12 members, I am in the bunch, found an improvement in clarity and easiness. Some said the sound is more dynamic.

2 members observed no improvement.
