Yes but we are talking about an Apple TV or other set top domestic playback device here not post production. In this area all video content is delivered as 4:2 0. So not sure what point your making here very different use case.

YUV is avoided as much as possible in acquisition and post these days at least for the film and high end sector I am in. It’s all raw sensor data, debayered to 16bit floating point Scene linear for compositing or 10bit log encoded for grading so colour sampling doesn’t come into it. But a whole world of other pain does.

Yes, I expect I’ll be streaming more movies rather than buying them in the future, but will still rely on high quality music concert Blu-ray’s, which are excellent quality and have hi-res audio.
