4K Man With No Name Trilogy

After having had the Arrow Films release of The Good, The Bad & the Ugly 4K on pre-release order from Amazon UK for three months, and two months after the official release date, I finally got an email from Amazon today saying ‘Nah, sorry, can’t get you this after all. Order cancelled.’. Which is a bit irritating.

Any thoughts for how to get hold of any of the Dollars trilogy on these (apparently excellent) 4K discs without having to sell internal organs or family members?

Didn’t know these existed… now I know that they do (somewhere) AND they are rare as rocking horse s#*t… I am full of want!

I think I may forego the option Amazon has given me though…

Good luck finding them (post here if you do)!

After searching …. This was a Limited edition release and sold out everywhere.

Try hmv for the standard release

Why purchase it at 30 euros as you have the 4 k one for 1,499 euros ?

KL Studio Classics released them on 4K, they are available if you search the Internet.

I paid an average of about AUD 60.00 each for the four of them from a specialist online shop in Melbourne about a year ago.

The KL versions do not use the same mastering as the Arrow Films discs. Comparison reviews I’ve seen show the Arrow releases as having better picture quality.

Having not personally seen any Arrow Films versions of these films I cannot comment on how good they are.

However, the picture quality of the KL versions are very good and considerably better than the standard Blu-ray versions of the films that I had before.

Anyone who didn’t know the trilogy from Arrow was available should keep up to date on the Naim Forum Home Theatre. This is where it all happens  And I posted here about Fistful and Few Dollars months earlier.

I bought all three boxsets. They are absolutely stunning, particularly TGTBATU.

Arrow used HDR from the original raw files. KL didn’t use HDR and they used a ‘yellow’ master. Arrow is Dolbyvision, KL isn’t. Arrow includes the extended film, KL doesn’t.

Arrow are a bit of an odd company, so to make sure I got this trio, I ordered directly from them in May. It was a little strange when TGTBATU arrived a bit earlier than the release date and seemingly a good week or two before anyone I read about on the net. I learnt my lesson about Arrow when I wanted the Great Escape boxset and it went out of stock whilst I was thinking about it. Luckily it came back in stock for a very short time, I bought it, then it disappeared and still hasn’t come back nearly a year later. Whether titles come back in stock is nothing to do with demand, it’s licensing, economics, etc… Whether these three come back is a toss of a coin.

The Arrow TGTBATU is my favourite 4K blu ray in my collection, and I have quite a few.

The KL versions for AFOD and FAFDM says there was “Extensive shot-by-shot color grading”, so I would expect that TGTBATU would also be the same in that regard and in addition the TGTBATU disc has Deleted Scenes for those that like that sort of stuff. They are all full 4K UHD.

The KL version of High Plains Drifter is HDR/Dolby Vision Master and 4K UHD.

I’m not a format expert, so maybe they are not quite so good picture quality wise than the Arrow Films versions, which is fair enough, but they are still excellent picture quality and I would not change them for the Arrow versions now that I have them, however, very good information for those considering purchasing the films in the future. Many thanks for sharing the information.

After all my teeth-gnashing, blow me down if I didn’t just walk into HMV and find all three:

It even looks like GBU has both versions, which I thought was exclusive to the Limited Editions:

The world is a strange place, sometimes. But I’m happier now than I was!
