So there you go. Turns out my dealers info was correct all along; Naim consider the 500 and Statement their pinnacle products. To my ears I agree, but of course I would.
This is the first time I have heard such blunt openness from Naim. Quite a forthright set of statements if you excuse the pun.
It kind of exposes forum conjecture and wishful thinking doesn’t it? Personally I wouldn’t swap any of the 500 components for the 300 alternatives. But best wishes to anyone who has sold their ND555/552/500’s for the 333/332/350’s though. It would be great if we are all happy with what we have bought
The pessimist in me interprets this as “Our money-hungry VC overlords won’t allow us the budget for extensive investment into new flagship products as they would prefer the focus to be on a larger, less niche market.”
@Blackbird the fact that the white logo requires less power than the green and technically therefore is a positive actually came up during my 500 series purchase yesterday (bought a demo 500 with a green logo and new white logo 552/555 and uniti core). I had already decided to stay white on the 552/555 when the retailer called to tell me post sale that his naim rep mentioned that fact when he logged the order. I had the same reaction, impressed at the level of detail naim’s engineers can take things to.
The thing i took from it was " we don’t have the cash or the design team" so they are just going to sit back.
This for me speaks volumes and is i guess what focal want.
Sitting back on products is going backwards not forward, such a shame to hear, as i was hoping naim could have something new to bring out for the higher market.
For what its worth to me this does not tell us much as Jason would not be allowed to say anything anyway. I still believe there will be a FPGA type dac streamer at 500 or Statement level, or both. A new Statement 2 amp range, followed by trickle down to a new 500 series. As Naim have said before making meaningful enhancements to 500 and Statement, will take some time.
I love how humans skew negative and make huge assumptions based on what they think is not said. No VC or PE is going to want their team to lose the technology war… that would be suicidal.
Exactly and it takes time and patience. I worked with the BBC r&d team and it astounded me the extent to which the best work came through letting them play.
I think you’ll find that the NC 300 series is a very efficient product in the cost / rrp ratio so my sense is they will be just ok with that right now.
Don’t mess with the flagships and focus on shifting the volume high margin product.
