500 series replacement imminent?

What has that got to do with what i said about the 500 series and it’s hopeful new replacement

The 500 series may be the longest standing in the catalogue but Naim have not stood still, on the contrary. But cast your eyes, how long have the Gyro and Orbe been in production, the Spendor speaker range etc, some products by their nature have longevity, happy to repeat you’re talking bollocks.

My 500 is 24 years old and sounds amazing :star2: I’m gonna feed it with Super Lumina DIN XLR shortly and then it’s happy for another 24 years.

Indeed  Scary moment to send it to UK and back… some years left though so I’ll worry about that later

They have stood still as far as the 500 series goes, but as i said hopefully this will be sorted soon.
If they had a newer better product then myself and other’s might still own a 500 product. That’s what i am saying really.
The gyro has had quite a few different upgrades over the years, plus being a turntable hasn’t really been in much demand for the last 20 plus years unlike a dac, streamer, amp, etc.

Just wondering what is it that needs to be improved in the 500? From reading the threads on this forum the 500 would seem to be held in very high regard by its owners, so how do you improve something that is so well respected?

Naim have to be careful in what they do, let the tech from the Statement series trickle down to a new 500 is the most logical update but this then compromises the Statement as people would buy a new 500 rather than splashing the cash on the top of the line series.

Do you therefore upgrade the Statement series first?

Any update at this level is going to give a minimal improvement in SQ as the existing products are so damn good, aren’t they?

Therein lies the truth, you’ve moved on and you’re forever being evangelical (fair enough) but equally defensive about it.

Well it is true, not going to lie as why would I.

The shame is Naim could no longer offer me a place to spend my money. Plus don’t say statement, as that’s just an amp.

You can’t keep looking backwards going forward.
The statement is over a decade ago when naim designed this. They should probably just filter parts down and then inpove in other area’s to make the next 500 series better.
Does it matter if it matches or is even better than the statement? Naim could certainly promote it well if that’s the case.
Plus it would show how far naim has come.

You are a bit like a jilted lover who continues to stalk his ex partner.

Like that.
But really i am just saying it how it is.
Obviously it’s going to rattle a few especially owners. But once it comes out everyone one on here will be saying how much better it is

Just teasing Dunc. Always interesting to get another perspective on things.

Well this will be my final word (honest!) assuming where you’ve arrived (Vitus?) is to your ears improved listening then all’s well. In the meantime you might just accept that until there is white smoke above Salisbury the existing 500 series continues to make great music.

I think Dunc is partially correct when he says the new 500 has been developed, but I doubt it is ready to go. My view is that Naim will have a pretty good idea of the design of the new 500 series from their experience with Statement and 300 series, indeed the new 500 series could have already been essentially designed.

Where I disagree with Dunc, is that I don’t believe the new 500 series is ready yet. The costly part of R&D is building, testing and refining prototypes. Incurring those cost would most likely be delayed until nearer the time the new 500 series is due for launch, and those R&D costs can start to be recouped.

So, more than a twinkle in Steve Sells’ eyes, but not quite a cigar yet.

But what needs improving or is it that you just feel that it’s time for a replacement?

The vitus did fill the void and offered the inpovement i was looking for.
But i certainly wouldn’t say that it’s my final amp, unlike my dcs vivaldi gear that certainly is as far as i will go.

I am hoping that naim can once again light that spark in me.

When I read comments such as this it makes me think some people are being ignorant to the fact that other brands and products exist. Some need to be continually reminded that Naim isn’t running a monopoly. To think that the 500 series is so great/perfect that one can’t even imagine it can be improved upon is ridiculous.

Please don’t get me started on this. Lol.
I don’t think we need to go there again, other than say i only feel the 500dr is a 500 series bit of kit these day’s.
Not going to say any more, so no point in going fishing.
