500 Series vs. Statement?

My favourite part of Scotland! I had many a holiday there years ago - I used to love it when you had to get a ferry across at Unapool before reaching Scourie: beyond there it was rare to see anyone other than locals - apart from occasional German tourists.

We missed out on our regular November trip to NW Highlands… We normally pick a nice cottage on the coast anywhere between Torridon and Clachtoll. February’s normally Cairngorm and In the Summer it’s more Skye or central around Loch Tay. It feels like a lifetime since we’ve been now!

Fond memories of fishing loch Stack and loch More from the Sutherland hotel.

That’s quite the depreciation for the person selling them. If you can buy them for a third of retail with all that work done. Ouch. My perception is that Naim gear holds its value will but perhaps that does not apply to the very top end stuff.

Don’t overlook that’s probably against US not UK listed prices?

And you’re assuming full list was paid for this and not e.g. an ex-dem deal.

I missed your point apparently. Understand now.

Lagavulin 16 was the second malt I ever bought, I remember it as particularly smokey and it was still smokey 20 years ago but sometime after it changed towards a more Laphraoig like taste with less smoke and more peat. I miss the older version. If the 12 is anything like that I’ll have to give it a go.

:yum:

Given that you’re trying to do the persuasion bit, I’ve fixed the above:

UPDATE: After significant hand wringing over the financials, not to mention a few intense discussions with the wife, she finally came around. Perhaps buying her a Siberian Husky puppy helped a bit. Anybody want to venture a guess of his naim? (answer below)

I FINALLY PULLED THE TRIGGER TODAY FOR THE COMPLETE NAIM STATEMENT SYSTEM!!! I’m pretty sure I got an unbeatable price. They were initially purchased 5 years ago but have since been updated to the current specs. Prior to being shipped to me, they are going back to the Naim factory for conversion to 110v and a thorough cleanup. They will have an updated factory warranty as well. My total cost is $90,000US, which includes the 110v conversion, the cleanup, and shipping from UK to NY.
Naturally, I am thrilled to be acquiring the very pinnacle of the Naim world, and one of the finest systems ever made by anyone. It will probably take at least a month before they arrive so I’m pretty what will be occupying my dreams for the next 30 days.

I want to thank all of you who graciously offered your advice, shared your experiences and anecdotes, and discussed your whisky preferences. What a delightful group you are. It would be so wonderful if we were able to all get together and celebrate the music, punctuated with our best scotch! Again, I am on Long Island, NY and would be quite excited to host any of you who were able and willing to come by for a visit.

Warmest regards,

Mitch

P.S.: For those of you who have not already figured it out the dog’s naim is “Scotch”. Naturally!!!

Hi Mitch,

Since you’re such a fan of single malt, and are shortly due to be listening to music delivered by the best Naim can build, allow me to lapse into the Jock vernacular, and congratulate you on the soon-to-be new system, and, of course, your collection of all things malty!

Aw ra best wi’ ra new music, an’ that!

P.S. Try almost anything by Arran Distillery … they are a huge favourite of mine, and produce consistently great malts, right across their range.

Just heard they stopped the 14 year old.

I used to have several Arrans, but it’s been awhile. Guess I’ll need to plug up that hole in my collection.

Aye, the 14 year old is no longer … which is a shame, as it was my favourite malt … still, I’ve just opened my last remaining bottle, so, never mind.
