500 v 2x300 active?

Not going well. My teenager has just asked me to turn it down so she can study

That’s some role reversal - a teenager telling the parent to turn it down :joy:

I know - I just said to my wife “there’s something wrong in this house” :flushed:

Thanks Tim. About the same size as my room. 808s are also on my list to consider.

Yes, I have had a number of negotiations with my girls over the years. Wait until she goes to work and wants you to turn things down as 2200!

The latest development is that when asked if I could have a wall shelf for the lp12 and so go down to one stack, the response was “well it won’t look any worse than those monstrosities”, referring to the speakers :joy:

She likes them!

Sony make very clever noise cancelling headphones - you may get a discount for multiple purchases. But that may not be all you get when you present them to your family!!

Have you consider black? This could blend in with the Naim black boxes and they look rather nice too.

I considered it long enough to reject it  would not look good here

Some times that better speaker is so effortless that what would sound harsh on one speaker at say 10 o’clock…just sounds great…but is loud.

The first few days after installation going from your old speakers they will look overbearing maybe but you soon get used to them in time. It’s the same when you go to a bigger size TV screen I find.

My ex wife described floor standing speakers as coffins. Needless to say we had to get divorced. It was a deal breaker. Lol

Feeling a bit guilty as my wife obviously hates them. But also fortunate that she’s not giving me a hard time  They are def still at the enormous stage! :grimacing:

After the teenager told me to turn it down, I was impressed by the bass when played quietly. They don’t need playing loud to impress, even after only 15-16 hours or so in total

Thats where your opinion fails Dave. If you haven’t heard an active Naim system you have no idea how amazing it is.

Well Dave is correct in saying that Naim’s view is that you should progress as far up the amp hierarchy as you can before going active. At the kudos roadshow in September 2019 I could tell a clear improvement from a pair of 300s active on Titan 606s over a single 300 passive, but one customer couldn’t tell any difference and another thought there was little difference. So there seems to be an element of personal preference and there is no automatic rule

The question is how soon this morning do I dare to start listening quietly without getting in trouble with wife and teenager for starting too soon

Let them choose some Music to listen too !!!

And its never to early lol !!!
