I’m not so sure Mrs TON isn’t going to exercise her veto…

Perhaps a new strategy…do the greenhouse now, ready for spring…then the speakers😉 Just saying…

There’s always a risk :grimacing:

I doubt it would be possible - we may have to replace the range oven first as the old Rayburn is not working reliably. And we replaced the boiler already this year, but will get our first renewable heat incentive payment next month from it

Come on Tim, get a grip and stay focused! ATB Peter

In that case I’d go on Ebay and put in ‘ Naim Statement’ for sale. Even at that price I can’t afford it, but hey nobody knows that Im sat drooling over it… somewhat repeatedly :unamused: Peter

I would only need about 80 years of the incentive payment to cover that

Make it so Number one…engage warp drive😁

That would be a “definitely not happening”! Will have to slum it with the 552… am hoping a single 300 should be enough to let the 808s shine

That’s great news!
It’ll interesting to read your thoughts
I guess the 500DR will follow soon

I would say “no, definitely not soon”, but I have so often said that about other things. Including the 808s…

Unfortunately, once you have started the slippery slope… we only stop when reaching the “No Go Statement Wall”.

I’ve been there

But no regrets, the 500DR series is so obviously good…

When Peter carried out some work on my record player, he hooked it up to 300/ 808’s and I was quite taken aback by how good it sounded. Not at all lacking was the impression I came away with.

Good luck with the audio (and ‘other half’ visual) demonstration.

Well they are here and in place. Been running for a couple of hours or so, so far.

Have been asked not to put up any photos on any forums as they are not quite standard finish. Will rectify that in due course if they stay / or I get a different finish when I will put up a photo of them - in the meantime the above is a picture of them boxed!

They are currently hard up against the wall. Bass a bit flabby and treble a little sharp but have only had a couple of hours here and 8 in the factory so it’s only to be expected. Pete thinks any excess / flabby bass (and it’s too soon to worry yet) would be tamed by some super lumina that he can supply and happens to have left in place so I can swap the cables over for a try in a week or two :man_facepalming: at least with passive there is just then one run to consider

Immediately there is more bass (woo, surprise!) and even at low ish volume there is a nice bass layer that was (again no surprise) not there on the SL2s.

Lovely boogie factor already - but very early days yet

The tineo is super stripy and a bit too orange (can imagine looking good in a modern house, less so a barn conversion where we don’t have modern stuff, other than tv/hifi), and I think I might prefer walnut (Toon has that on his 606s I think) or oak (a reviewer on the Kudos site has posted a photo of his). Will have to check with the greenhouse ordering department for her views :grimacing:

Speaking of which - they are quite a bit bigger than the SL2s (again no surprise), but not as bad as they might be (and better than some of the suggestions on here )and with the right finish won’t dominate too much. Plus probably more noticeable now than they will be in a few days. I like the look more with the grilles on than off

That’s enough for now. Will keep y’all informed of progress

Whaoh - you could do with a spare barn to store those transport crates in!

Peter

PS Perhaps should have clarified it was Peter at Cymbiosis where I heard the 300/ 808’s - too many Peters in this posting!!

It’s ok - there is a Pete and a Peter (both dealers) and I had worked out which one you meant (acoustica don’t do Linn turntables) but then there are other Pete®s too on here

Should have replied to the point on box storage - I think one of the five hatches in the loft is just big enough to fit them through, but the other four are no go for that.

@TimOopNorth would you mind telling me the dimensions of your room and how the 808s are placed.
Good luck in your evaluation although I suspect they will be keepers.

From memory, the room has overall dimensions of roughly 25 feet by 19 feet, but with a corner taken out by the entrance hall / stairwell (roughly 13’ x 6’)

The racks and left speaker are kind of in the heel of the L on the longest wall facing across to the widest bit of the room. The right hand speaker is more or less in the middle of the longest wall

Here is a picture with the previous speakers

The new speakers are pretty much in the same position as the SL2s
