Hi Tim,
Pete also installed my ND555 and 2nd power supply, as you can see it went beneath the 552.
I agree with Michael- try attaching speaker cable to top box.
I use top on my Titan T88s- with the lower box I felt the bass was too prominent. And my Titans are 50 inches from back wall.
Takes a few minutes to change. If u do this remember the speaker links are directional - they need to be reversed.
Try it
David
I shall have to present the results of the poll to Pete and see what he says
Does the tweaking never stop?
Heavens, no! Perish the thought that we might settle for what we have, sit back and let the music flowwww.
Where’s the fun in that?
Only kidding, BF
I also have earlier T88 Titans, the top photo was my original preferred placement.
However, never feeling I was getting the best out of the ND555 and twin 555ps I made 3 changes , purchased the podiums (suspended floor) brought the Titans off the wall and placed them further apart.
That improved the soundstage and reduced the effect of the wall.
I have a friend with active sl2s, also a customer of Pete’s and he has commented that he enjoys the depth of soundstage the Titans can deliver.
As the third photo shows I’m still working at it.
Ordered morgana din/xlrs yesterday thanks to all the recommendations here.
Just to add 552/500dr great choice, sure you’ll do it
Out of interest Rusty, which were the best absorbers, the tartan blankets or the hessian rugs?
Ooh, you are awful ……but I like… no let’s not go there
I wouldn’t do anything until you have a couple of hundred hours on them. Patience grasshopper…
I would agree with you Elfer, however I would certainly put the SL speaker cable in ATB Peter
On the plus side I think lockdown means I get to keep them on demonstration rather longer than we all thought…
Definitely worth auditioning SL but not to fix a problem with far from run in speakers. I would let them run in, tweak positioning as much as possible/practical and then see if he likes what SL brings.
After run in, perhaps pull them out from the wall to find where they work best, knowing they could never end up there. Then move them back towards where they would have to go, to see if there is an acceptable compromise. It may be that having heard what they are capable of vs how they sound in their final position changes the value proposition. Or maybe ignorance is bliss
The lovely Helen has said there can be no more cables running across the room, and she doesn’t want the racks between the right speaker and the piano as she she see them face on from about 3 feet away every time she enters the room from the hallway. On the plus side she seems to have accepted the 808s
So need to find a solution for the racks to bring the lp12 away from the left speaker
Wondering if both racks could move to the left and the mini quadraspire rack move to the right. The problem with that is that the left (brain) rack then needs to have the turntable on top with 552, nd555 and 300 head beneath it (the lp12 cannot be the springboard for the cats to the windowsill). There would be space to use medium legs though and have that as a tall rack - though the router would be at the back of it at the bottom
The right rack would then be brawn and need five levels (2x555, 552ps, 300ps and Radikal not nec in that order)
Previously I had Linn Saras and later Isobariks, which I was always happy with close to the wall. I bought Titans with the same intentions, but have come to accept that I either comprise on what the Titans have to offer or room aesthetics.
Hence no room treatment as yet.
H.H. (furnishings) and Thomas (treatment) have commented on this subject many times and my experience confirms their wisdom.
Both the Saras and Isobariks would have sat happily in my preferred space, but Titans do need room to breathe.
I agree get them as run in as possible, time permitting, but do try to experiment with positioning. They do work (whatever that means) in many positions, but better in some than others.
IMHO I don’t think Super Lumina is the answer, but it might give the uplift you desire to the SL2s and the savings could finance the 500dr, which is far more accommodating.
Wonder if Pete’s got an exdem also.
Ignorance may well be underrated
Apologies, I was constructing my post, and it would appear you got there first.
Great minds at all that.
A deal to be done, surely?
A couple of measly wires across the room in exchange for a posh greenhouse. How can she say no to that?
I wonder what the Titans would sound like in an Orangery
She has already said no…
