500 v 2x300 active?

Hi Filipe,
Could it be an idea to change its position slightly on a weekly basis to prevent spike-ulcers?! ATB Peter

Those SL cables won’t be going back to Pete’s shop either.

I did the same upgrade on a used pair. I already had SL on the CD555 and SL speakers cables for SL2s but did them over the space of a 4 or months so I was able to judge each upgrade.

All I’ll say is the standard 500 XLR/DIN cables really hold things back. Probably not what you wanted to hear but hey ho! :grinning:

Sounds like you took a similar path to me. Pete said today he thought it is mad that Naim just use a £150 set of cables between the 500 and 552. Well, cheaper than three grand I suppose

And I have never sent anything back to Acoustica that I had on demonstration :grimacing:

Aye but you have a better pair of speakers on the end of your system so I’d expect you’d hear even greater gains than me but they were still more than worthwhile and easy to hear through the SL2s.

I did think about the Morgana’s that users are raving about but being already 2/3rds of the way there with SL, I just knew I’d have that little voice in my head saying ‘should’ve gone for Superlumina son’.

Now I can just forget about and enjoy hearing a better sound than I had before.

I know what you mean about SL / Morgana - have been thinking just the same way myself.

Superlumina are made by Vertere. So the price is higher if Naim have done them himself.
Perhaps it’s possible to try less expensive cables with same performance?
Some find the Chord Sarum t , at similar price, clearly better than Superlumina.
I would try personally other brands, and see how they compare.
Just saying.

To be clear, Naim acquire the SL cable in spools via Vertere (I believe), who in turn I suspect purchase from a cable supplier to their spec. Naim then assemble SL cables at the factory in Salisbury.

I have seen first hand at the factory the care and skill needed to terminate these complex cables. They were never going to be cheap.

I haven’t heard a Sarum T in my system but I have compared a SL interconnect to a Sarum Tuned Aray interconnect. The SL was way better in my system.

Still always a good idea to compare SL to alternatives though.

I see that @Debs liked my post. I suspected he likes Chord and indeed, in his profile, he has Sarum t with 552/500.
I have the signature tuned array and find them more refined and less upfront vs hiline. But have not compared to Superlumina, which are twice more expensive.
Perhaps Debs have compared?

Oh, very sorry. Veuillez accepter mes excuses les plus sincères, chère Madame

Well I thought that…re synergy with full SL loom…but in my system no…the 552/500 sl was very disappointing… it was better than std…but not 3.5k better. I then tried the Morgana omg…fantastic in my system superb … like you I think the SL speaker cable is good… so be careful…

By the way I tried Vertere pulse B … between 552 and 500… did not like that either… the Morgana is far far more dynamic and detailed…in my system…

I’ve done the same with Pete, hang back etc.
Think I’ll get the boxes sorted first, unless well you know the story…

Well you only need to read the thread on the morgana xlr’s to see what people think of them.
I know people like the hole naim thing, and for some its the only way, thats fine but seriously if you are going to spend £3.5k on a pair of these, then why wouldn’t you atleast try the morgana ones, especially when you can have them for a less than a 3rd of the cost, actually why not if the £3.5k is burning a hole in your pocket, go for the complete morgana loom and be done.
The only one thats going to lose out is pete, but then he has probably made £10k already out the deal. Plus dont forget you can try the morgana’s for 30 days, free.

Likewise, SL just did not perform where Morgana did…just have to test in your own home system.

Ha, ha I made the same mistake a few months ago… Not that easy for francophones to automatically understand that a member called @Debs is a she!

will look into it but not being able to listen before buying is a downside and it feels a bit all or nothing. Would want to try when a local friend can come and listen (and help with swapping cables over - I hate messing with cables) so probably not in the immediate future. It’d be good if someone local had them but not aware of anyone in the north west

At that price, he really ought to try Chord Music.

They do them on a 30 day money back guarantee, but the difference on your system will be very apparent from the off, the standard naim xlr’s will bring the biggest improvement once you get rid of them, as for swapping them over, then that’s a 5 minute job at best, very easy to do

Yes I know about the 30 day thing. Given their difficulty in delivering things in a timely manner(!) it would be worth talking to them about getting everything in one go
